Sections of Tortola, JVD without power after vehicular crash in west

The downed utility pole

Multiple areas on the western end of Tortola and Jost Van Dyke are experiencing a power outage due to a vehicular accident on that side of the main island.

A vehicle reportedly crashed into a utility pole on the main road to Frenchman’s Cay. The impact of the crash caused the pole to topple, resulting in the Pockwood Pond West Feeder tripping.

“This outage affects areas from Cox Heath to Windy Hill and Jost Van Dyke,” the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) stated following the accident, which happened sometime after 6 pm on Tuesday.

The BVIEC said it is working to restore power to the affected areas.

In the meantime, it is not yet clear to BVI News what caused the accident, but our news centre understands that emergency responders were at the scene.

One motorist reportedly sustained minor injuries from the impact
