Security Council promises effective response after latest murders

The National Security Council (NSC) has committed to developing a more effective strategy to combat gun crime in the BVI following the recent double murder that rocked the territory.

The victims, 44-year-old Alix Montero Hernandez of Fahie Hill and 33-year-old Amancio Vasquez Ramirez of Sea Cows Bay, were fatally shot outside a bar in Huntums Ghut in the early hours of Friday, May 17.

During an emergency meeting, the NSC expressed condolences to the victims’ families and emphasised the need for community cooperation in providing any information that could assist the investigation.

Governor Daniel Pruce, who visited the crime scene, stated, “This is terrible news. My thoughts are with the loved ones of the victims. I’m grateful to the RVIPF for their quick response, and I ask anyone with any information to contact the police as they take forward their investigation.”

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) pledged to increase police presence and patrols in the area after the incident, with Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool stating: “Our deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of the victims in this tragic incident. We understand the pain and grief this has caused, and the RVIPF is fully committed to doing everything possible to solve this crime and bring those responsible to justice. We are dedicated to restoring a sense of safety and security in our community.”

In the meantime, the NSC highlighted its commitment to improving security through a forthcoming law enforcement review and encouraged residents to use the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline to report any relevant information.

The latest incident is part of a troubling trend in the territory, with several recent murders linked to gun violence. Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has condemned these acts and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice.

What so special about this that we only now committing to coming up with a new strategy to combat gun crime? It had several murders and robberies in recent times all gun related and is only after this one we realize it need a new strategy?

Just keep it real with the public and say y’all don’t know how to combat gun crime in the BVI. If I were yall I would start with offering money rewards for information leading to successful convictions. It have people out there that does know what happen and who did it they just not risking themselves for free.

  3. Effective Response says:

If the Government want an effective response, they need to provide the RVIPF with enough money for forensic and ballistic testing. They also need to amend legislation to allow the police to effectively search, arrest, detain, and question suspects. Unfortunately, the government are more interested in spending tax- payers money on pop festivals, parties, and trips to Asia.

b.s, we aren’t serious about crime, for two weekends in a row gunshots were fired up Longbush in the evening time, heard by everyone who was at the softball game, the police have said nothing and will do nothing because they don’t care to stop crime or to keep us safe, it’s every man for themselves in the BVI jungle

  6. Bought and Sold Already. says:

They will never be able to combat gun nor any other type of crime as every entity is bought out and tied up in money sharing and beneffitng. The corruption is from top to bottom, prevasive and normal.

Every one know that the ports management is severely compromised by the businesses of the territry, especially by the Arab.

But will the Council and RVPF and its detectives go after them? Nope. Everyone is bought and sold already.

Hence, we will continue to lose our young men to gun violence because of “green greed” on the fron end and youth death on the back end.
