Several ex-employees rehired – Digicel
Digicel’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kevin Gordon said a number of employees who left the company earlier this year have been rehired.
Gordon made the revelation on Tuesday while claiming that the employees were not fired when they departed the company, but instead opted to leave through its Voluntary Layoff Programme.
The CEO who was responding to questions by the media during the unveiling of the company’s new Digicel Experience Store today said the rehiring was necessary because of the recent hurricanes.
“We did not lay off staff. What we had was a Voluntary Layoff Programme, so persons chose to move on. So after the storm, we had to bring everybody back, not just the persons that were here but we brought back persons who were not here before [Hurricane Irma] to ensure that we can serve our customers and serve them better.”
He did not give any figures in terms of how many staff was rehired or the numbers who made the decision to leave Digicel in May of this year.
“I am not at liberty to disclose the number of persons that went, but we have enough staff on hand to serve all our customers,” he said.
He did, however, inform that there are about 10 employees in the company’s flagship store based in Road Town.
