Shenseea, Machel Montano named among emancipation festival line-up

The 70th Emancipation Festival promises a variety of acts for this year’s festivities, featuring new wave dancehall artiste Rajah Wild for Wild Out Wednesday and Jamaican-born artiste Shenseea for International Reggae Night.

The festivities will run from July 14 to August 10, with performances by Skinny Fabulous, Triple Kay International band, Adam O, and St. Kitts-based band Nu Vybes.

Destra, the renowned Queen of Bacchanal, is also set to perform at this event.

The headliners for the event, announced at the BVI Music Festival, include Dexta Daps and Machel Montano for International Reggae Night and International Soca Night, respectively, on August 2 and 3.

Virgin Islands native Monea is slated to perform at Flag-O-Rama.

The 70th Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival Village will be named in honour of Jost Van Dyke native Larina Loretta Jacobs-Lamothe, affectionately known as “Rena”.

Is this our normal festivities or a music festival? Why should I have to pay to celebrate freedom?

Only free nights can see me at carnival if O even go. The line-up sucks as always. All these artists come every year. The government won’t spend our money good to bring good people in. Every year they collect big money and still no new artist. St. Thomas is free every night and Pure big artists on every night. This government needs to answer we the people questions but they won’t. Boycott carnival because you seen these people already. Sit in your car or outside and listen to them. I bet the puppets will have to do better. Stop letting them walk over you all.

What happen to Bands from USVI Jam Bang, Cool Sessions and the others. What about Bajan, Antigua, and Dominica bands or Artists? If you not going to let entrance be free, please be darn considerate and lower the fees. People already struggling below poverty line, but yet you want them to support what suppose to be a celebration of freedom. Stop trying to undermine the people by bringing these folks and paying an arm and a keg in essence of saying that’s what the people want and then charging these elaborate and outrageous fees. You all(Festival Committee) needs to meet with the people and listen to what they feel would encourage them to participate and support our Festival. Sorry for the booth owners, but people just need to stand around outside and socialize while listening to the music. Don’t pay a dime to enter. Let’s here them(carnival Committee) complain about how locals don’t support when it is they the Committee oppressing the People along with the clown running the show.
