Shoppers flock supermarkets amid rumours of another BVI lockdown

Amid rumours of another impending lockdown in the British Virgin Islands, residents are now flocking local supermarkets.

The evidence of this could be seen in the parking lot of RiteWay Food Market in Pasea on Monday, August 24.

The supermarket lot was packed with vehicles and its store crowded with shoppers when BVI News visited the location this afternoon.

As the number of shoppers grew larger, the supermarket had to introduce a controlled entry system so as to prevent persons from entering in droves.

Up to publication time, a long and increasing queue of persons were observed outside the store, waiting to enter.

It was a similar spectacle over at OneMart Superstore in Purcell Estate as shoppers flocked the supermarket in anticipation of a lockdown.

Hours before any official word

Government has not given any official word of a lockdown for the territory. However, Health Minister Carvin Malone is scheduled to deliver a public COVID-19 address at 9 pm tonight.

Residents have been on edge since last Wednesday following the announcement of the territory’s twelfth COVID-19 case who has no recent travel history and who appears to be a case of ‘community spread’ of unknown origin.

Two days after that announcement, the BVI recorded nine new cases — the single largest number of positive cases to be reported locally over 24 hours.

Since it will be several hours before any official word from government authorities, public fears have been heightened.

The territory has recorded 21 COVID-19 cases to date — 12 of which are active. Eight have recovered and one has died.

Question authorities, stop acting as a flock of sheep! The facts are simple, this virus is here to stay, we better learn how to live with it because it won’t be the virus that will end up killing us, but unemployment, food shortages, strikes etc as a result of the actions being taken, the media is doing a phenomenal job is scaremongering, less that 0.5% of people with the virus die and we are acting like the world is about to end! Use your brain, think!

I think we should seriously consider lock down for a couple of weeks until we get this virus controlled. To many cases popping up and there will be more to follow.

So we can either live with it or keep hiding at home like jackasses while the economy tanks! At this rate by Decembee we will all be lined up at festival grounds with metal bowls begging for hard bread and porridge from the UK Troops! 99% of ppl globally that contract the virus lives.

Control? If it hasn’t been brought under control in 5 months it isn’t going to be. Our hospital is not overwhelmed at all. The illness has a low symptom rate let alone death rate. We need to learn to live with it. Commissioner Mick says that it is FAKE NEWS about a lockdown, that we are going to learn to live with it. That’s good news, so no need for panic buying.

Who to blame?? They know long now. But who am i to say anything when they know from the inception this was going on and the spanish lady proves it when she tried to board a plane but yet nothing was done. Only laws and laws and more laws for expat is being discussed instead of focusing on whats going on in the islands.

I am willing to take one for the team. At this time and how things is going, at least two weeks on lock down and try to control the virus. Only essential workers should be allowed out. Honestly, I feel safer on lock down in my home than being outside.

But the man doesn’t want to say in case he in trouble for that, so he rather pretend he caught it here.

Out of hand how? 9 of the cases have no symptoms. No one is putting pressure on the hospital. More people get pneumonia here and go to hospital than from coronavirus. We have to learn to live with this and protect those most vulnerable. If all this lockdown and stuff for 5 months hasn’t worked, it isn’t going to in the future either.

We should be worried. The Cuban advance takeover team is here under the guise of health professionals. They are indoctrinating our leaders towards socialism and the eventual demise of our territory towards Cuba’s control. We will no longer be “British” but comrades.

We are in the end of days.

A difficult task to be covid free…
    1. Mandatory testing for all (impossible)
    2. Closed borders (impossible)
    3. Territory wide 24 hour curfew for all (impossible)

The virus has no respect for essential workers, politician and their friends/cronies/families, expats, born here, daylight, night-time, etc, etc.

Lets accept that we have to live with the virus and take individual precautionary measures. A lock-down will not work since many will be exempted or granted passes.

So who gives a rats ass about UK’s imperialism or Cuba’s socialism? Facts are Cuba’s socialism has helped more people over the decades and centuries than UK imperialism has and ever will.

Up to this day, in Kenya, Black people are suffering woefully at the hands of the (UK) english for the stealing of all of their lands, their deportation into slums abject poverty and misery. They then work the same people on lands for nothing producing tea.

They export all the tea to the UK and the world at huge profits, while the African, whose the land was stolen from him, lives in and is mired in abject poverty, so the english man can have and enjoy his cup of tea.

Meanwhile, the Cubans are not known for oppressing and exploiting people around the globe, they are known for helping an assisting particularly in the medical field. They help people, nations and political parties. Indeed, it was the aid and resources of the the Cuban government that brought the brutal practices of those white people in South Africa called arparthied to an end. If it wasn’t for them, we would have it, like the covid virus, right here on our shores to day.

Many would chose Cuba’s socialism any day of the week over UK, EU or US imperialism. But one has to be exposed to true historical facts before one can make such unpopular statements in current times.
