Should we rebury Noel Lloyd in Road Town?
Although the great Noel Lloyd has been officially named a national hero, Third District Representative Julian Fraser believes there is one more thing that the Virgin Islands can do to honour his life and legacy.
Fraser said the government should remove Lloyd’s remains from its current place and rebury them beneath a special monument in the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park.
The park is located in Road Town and was built to honour Lloyd who fought for Wickham’s Cay and Anegada to remain beneath the feet of Virgin Islanders.
“I think a national monument – for Noel Lloyd – should be erected in that park. And in that national monument should be his body. We should exhume his body from wherever he is and bury him in that park,” Fraser posited in the House of Assembly on October 16.
He said the process of exhumation may shock many Virgin Islanders, but assured the act is often carried out by nations around the world who seek to honour the greats who lived among them.
“Of course we’ll get a lot of pushback but if you travel you’ll see these things. Where you have national heroes and you designate something for them – whether it’s a park or museum – their bodies are in there,” Fraser added. But he said the public would ultimately support the exhumation, once they are properly educated on the reason it is being done.
Exhumation is an act that is widely carried out to honour people posthumously. Jamaica’s national hero Marcus Garvey for instance, lived and died in the United States after he empowered black masses in the western world and created works that would later influence many of the principles of Rastafari and other modern movements.
After he was named a national hero in Jamaica, his remains were taken from the United States and reburied in the National Heroes Park in Jamaica’s capital. The remains of other national heroes are also buried in the park.

Hon Fraser these people here in the bvi are very simple minded…They will quicker ridicule you rather than seeing what you’re trying to say or do.
This is not so current news but BVInews put it better! Hahaha! It is still hilarious and will be for generations to come. Generally, I don’t think clowns are funny but the ones in the BVI seem to be, for sure! To be fair to Fraser, I will start to consider his suggestions when pigs start to fly, from BVI to Puerto Rico. I think that is fair because that is not a long distance.
Nothing more important to do Mr Fraser?
when road town gets flooded then what? try leave him rest where he is please.
he dies exhume Lloyd and bury his remains in the RT park then bury the 3D rep in the non hero empty grave.
Those who are casting disparagement on this idea were not here, and do not know the wars, horrors, suffering and pain Mr. Llyod, Mr. Castro and others endured for years.
Weare free from arparthied today as a direct result of their ploitical and national eforts to keep us free.
None of those who casting filth on the idea what they are talking about, and none of them would be here today if those men had fail in their efforts.
Today, we are free from what Gaza looks like today and South Africa looked like and decade back.
Let us be thankful for those warriors and rejoice. For without them we would be in a living hell today.
Truths are truths.
not even the dead could rest in peace buddy!
Yes, dig him up so that he can see the travesty we have leading us into the next 3 yrs and who consistently disregard good governance in this place. We have such feckless leaders that they keep focusing on mundane issues in order to avoid the more important ones
Leave Noel Lloyd to Rest In Peace. He was maltreated, ostracized, discriminnated by the powers that be of this territory. What they coild have done to honour Lloyd while was alive, was not done. Mow they want to shower honours on him that he can’t appreciate because he is Dead. All you hypocrites keave the f**king man alone to RIP.
I will never forget, growing up and seeing Honorable Noel Lloyd walk the street barefoot and looking for help . He died, probably on a Wednesday and by Saturday morning the park was named after him and had a whole statue for him. And it was from that very young age, I learned people ain’t S**t
Next u hear the flood waters have him floating thru town, please let the man rest where he is. When he was alive yall used to pass him straight, so please go sit down!
