Shuttle success! Nearly 150 taxis transporting over 200 people daily

Minister of Transportation, Kye Rymer has lauded the government’s taxi-stimulus, revealing that nearly 150 taxi operators are presently employed to provide shuttle service to people on the four main islands.

The value of the taxi stimulus is one million dollars and was part of the government’s COVID-19 stimulus package. It started in Road Town, Tortola and was extended to Anegada, Jost Van Dyke, and Virgin Gorda.

According to Minister Rymer, there are about 115 taxi operators providing the free shuttle service in Road Town, 17 on Virgin Gorda, nine on Jost Van Dyke, and seven on Anegada.

“I get the calls from them (taxi operators) and they are quite thankful for this stimulus that this government has offered to them,” Rymer said.

Additionally, Rymer said an average of 200 persons use the free shuttle service in Road Town daily. He said the number of users signifies that the service is a success and noted that it will be continued in 2021.

The service is meant to reduce traffic congestion in the capital.

“Once we have the paid parking within the city, I expect to see more persons utilising this service,” Rymer said

The Road Town shuttle service provides travel to 41 locations/designated stops in and around Road Town free of charge from Monday to Friday from 6 am to 6 pm at 15-minute intervals.

It is one of the government programmes providing revenue for taxi operators across the territory that have lost business due to the closure of the BVI’s tourism industry earlier this year.

Why do people always try to insult the intelligence of residents.Do we appear to be that dumb? 150 transporting 200 per day???? How can that be a success? Do the average per bus per day. Carry on smartly and give away taxpayers money.

Just like all statistics in the BVI, they never make sense and are done to impress. The only problem is that anyone with a fifth grade education sees right through the nonsense and it clearly defines the people as uneducated buffoons.

to allthe idiots above who chose to look and not read the story. No there is not 150 taxis in Road Town being used for the shuttle system on any 1 day.

The 150 taxis are throughout the territory you know the other islands out there Jost, Anegada, VG.

The number of 200 is people daily using the shuttle service in Road Town, different taxis get their chance each day to earn so money.

Now go learn to read before you all start bitchin like lil girls again.

  7. What ??? says:

Why is this man trying to have to government pay for this free ride and waiting for the service to pickup so that they can hand it over to one of their friends ?? when it becomes lucrative People will have to pay for the service I’m sure of that. Nothing is free. Government pays out roughly $7000.00 weekly to collect $2000 if they collecting money.

How can that be a success??????

  8. Lol says:

What a waste of money. Why we always so worried about protecting the taxi men. What do they do for the territory ?

This is an awesome service for we the public who don’t drive.Only one thing some of the driver’s are very hostile, the service benefits both of us.Because if the government didn’t implement this, you all wouldn’t of have a salary coming in.Treat the residents as you all treat the tourists before Covid.

  10. Rubber Duck says:

Why do we not have a proper bus service. ?

    That is the real question.

  11. BuzzBvi says:

200 people being moved in 150 cars means more traffic on the road – not less.
