Sixth District Rep says gov’t has priorities mixed up

Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn has accused the government of having mixed priorities, highlighting a series of errors and a lack of public consultation on critical issues.

Walwyn pointed to a string of blunders, including the hurried implementation of Commission of Inquiry (COI) recommendations without initial public input. He also criticised the government’s pursuit of full CARICOM membership without public involvement.

He criticised the government for not seeking the people’s opinions on further self-determination while actively pursuing international recognition and memberships that would significantly impact the territory’s future.

While the territory approaches the second fiscal quarter, Walwyn expressed worry about the local economy, which he beleives has become stagnant. He stated, “We still have an ailing economy with absolutely nothing happening to stimulate its growth.” The lack of jobs has pushed many previously middle-class citizens towards poverty, he added, emphasising the government’s inadequate response to essential services such as a reliable supply of potable water.

Walwyn further questioned the government’s spending priorities. He contrasted the minimal budget for fixing water infrastructure with the expenditure on an upcoming Music Festival, which he believes offers minimal benefit. He also pointed to crumbling roads and struggling small businesses as evidence of misplaced priorities.

“Our country, which was once a leader in tourism and hospitality, is now lagging behind most of its competitors,” Walwyn lamented while comparing the BVI’s situation unfavourably to neighbouring Caribbean islands that have successfully attracted inward investment and improved their tourism infrastructure.

As the confidence in the government reaches “an all-time low,” Walwyn called for immediate action to rectify the situation, suggesting that it might be time for the opposition to leverage parliamentary mechanisms to reflect the public’s dissatisfaction.

I don’t think that I can remember a time where we have been so stagnant in the BVI. We aren’t seeing anything happening in terms of economic growth or infrastructural development that will boost the economy. We continue to just play ping pong in the HOA, a bunch of back and forth. This government is, in my opinion, one of the worst that we have had to date.

It is the government the people voted for and became happy for.

Remember, persons cheered a lady for crossing the floor saying she outsmarted the men who were “playing around trying to form a government”.

Sometimes, persons are so smart they outsmart even themselves.

Walwyn go suck an egg and be quiet. Your priorities may not be their priorities so jump on the band wagon and stop fretting before Scotland Yard put you behind bars for alleged breach of trust. You suppose to be there long time but they letting you breathe so do what you can while you not behind bars cause your time coming.
