Skelton not opposed to contesting election but it’s not a priority
Former Deputy Director of the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) Rhodni Skelton said he is not immediately minded to contest the upcoming general elections at this time.
He gave that indication amid speculation that his political aspirations were what caused him to end his approximate 19-year career with the BVITB.
But the the tourism-marketing specialist said in a ZBVI interview this week that his decision to part with the Tourist Board was not politically motivated.
Skelton, however, said he is not ruling out the possibility of running for office altogether and said his history of community service makes politics “a natural progression”.
“So am I against contesting an election whether this one or the next? No I am not. I think the situation needs to be ideal. And I know it will never be a hundred percent ideal but I think it also comes from the will of the people,” Skelton explained.
“Since last week, everywhere I go folks are asking, ‘hey, Rhodni, school children say you’re running. Are you running?‘ And for me, that’s not what I would need to hear. I would need to hear, ‘hey, Rhodni, I think you would be the best person whether in the Fourth District where I vote or whether At Large, and we need someone like you‘. I think it has to come from the community. I am not opposed to it. But as of right now … thats not something I have as my priority,” added the former BVITB executive who is also the son of former legislator and political figure, Ronnie Skelton.
Rhodni, in the meantime, said his focus right now is on some personal projects which includes establishing a beach bar and restaurant. He also noted that he has received offers to lend his professional services to market other jurisdictions in the region.
He said he is still considering whether to accept those offers.

Nobody cares. Tell him go St Croix.
Lmao!!
We must not forget our past because it comes back to haunt the present and the future.
We must lead with example in our workplace because what you put in is what you get out.
How you treat your peers can and will bite you in the butt. If you haven’t seen someone who comes from the bottom and surpasses you to the top can occure. You can become a Representative leader but humble yourself because nothing is entitled to you Mr. Skelton.
Take time off and refocus on rebuilding yourself and attitude.
Anybody that would make a media release regarding them being let go isn’t the type Id vote for any-who. There are so many issues needing to be fixed as opposed to what this guy feels we should know about his working experience at TB. No job can hold you if it’s so bad, just quite and move on.
The irony here is that the same attitude that cost him his job is playing out in front of our eyes. You were Deputy Director at TB, your contract wasn’t renewed, fine, I’m sure you were paid and life goes on. Why do you have to be on every media being interviewed and the likes. The young man thinks far too much of himself and is living in his own little dreamland. Humility is everything, it doesn’t matter how many paper qualifications you have.
Don’t study the talk Rhodni! Let them talk! U can handle yourself. Your credentials speaks gif U.
Rhodni your credentials speaks for you! There is probably something better out there god U. Keep your head high and move on leave dem right they.
That’s not nice to see! He hit deep roots in the BVI
If he run in the 4thhe have my vote fo sure
Tell this young man, go and work SKELETON GROUP.
You can win in the 4th, Lou Hodge is a very good lady but VIP connection at this time she will fail, with a good candidate like you. Also to Add, won’t look good for you and your elder running at Large..
I feel he can make something happen in the 4th. Under pvim i suppose. The 4th is sort of up for grabs right abt now
