Speed bumps! Premier says COI Implementation Unit delayed

A unit intended to overlook the implementation of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) recommended reforms has encountered a delay in its start, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley disclosed recently.

“We ran into little speed bumps with the Implementation Unit because the person that we had identified, her organisation did not agree to second her for that purpose,” Premier Wheatley told reporters recently.

According to Dr Wheatley, another candidate is under active consideration.

“That person is considering it right now and once that person gives their approval to move forward, then the implementation unit can be up and running,” he added.

In a recent statement in the House of Assembly, Dr Wheatley said that in order to support the implementation of the recommendations, an Implementation Unit has been established in the Premier’s Office.

“At present, existing staff have been identified for the Unit and I am very pleased for the support that is being provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)”, the Premier said at the time.

He noted then that until plans for the outfitting of the identified physical space are finalised, the staff of that unit will work remotely.

In addition to the Implementation Unit, Premier Wheatley noted that the House of Assembly (HOA) has established a Reform Committee, which will be responsible for the legislative timetable for implementation of COI recommendations.

“The timetable will involve consultation between the HOA, the Cabinet, the Premier and the Governor,” the Premier said.

This COI report was written before the COI started. Another attempt to try to justify enslaving another OT by the colonial masters.

  2. Hold on says:

The biggest failure in the BVI over the years has been the Governors and all under them. However, the bias COI allows them to have the responsibilty to fix their mistakes without penalties and also fix the local Governmnet’s shotfalls with penalties for them. BVI WAKE UP!

I do not disagree with all the COI recommendations but a good portion of them are ridiculous. If those are implemented then the UK would have force us to do things to enslave ourselves for them and claim that their hands are clean when in fact it was them. The more things change the more they remain the same.

Some of the COI recommendations are credible and realistic but not most. What I can say is the way the Commissioner of the COI was selected, the way the COI was conducted, the use of an 1880 Commission of Inquiry Act to Govern behaviors in the 21st century, the threat by the UK in modern times for direct rule, and so forth can be described in one fashion — MODERNIZED VERSIONS OF RACISM & SLAVERY!

If all these recommendations of the bias COI are implemented, then it makes absolutely no sense to have any elected represented because they will be powerless, and the Governor & his UK sidekicks alone will be all POWERFUL. I guess this what the UK wanted for the BVI and all OTs all along. The people of the BVI need to prepare themselves for some tough days ahead when this happens. Just like slavery days they will get away with it for now because they will have all of us fighting and blaming each other and not them.

Nonsense. We all know that the Gov and his Uk have a team that blogs all day on this sight and pressing like and dislike accordingly to make whatever they are doing seem right. This can only fool the people for a while.
