Sunday’s murder was a drive-by shooting, police inquiries suggest

Information from the Royal Virgin islands Police (RVIPF) indicate that the latest murder committed on BVI soil on Sunday was a drive-by shooting.

The RVIPF gave that indication while releasing the identity of the victim — 37-year-old Kemo Lettsome of Long Look.

“Initial inquiries indicate that the shooter drove by the residence in a vehicle around 6:30pm [on Sunday, April 30], discharged several bullets, and left in the same vehicle. Much more information is needed to help with investigations into this incident,” the police stated.

The fatal incident happened near the Stickett on the eastern end of Tortola. In the meantime, law enforcers have issued a public appeal to anyone with information about the killing to come forward.

Detectives are asking for witnesses to contact the police Major Incident Team at 368-9410. Alternatively, persons can give this information anonymously through the RVIPF’s Crimestoppers hotline number, 800-8744.

Following the fatal shooting, the National Security Council (NSC) met on Monday, May 1. And in joint statement from Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley and Governor John Rankin who jointly head up the NSC, the duo said: “Those who saw something or heard something about any of the murders, must say something. Absolutely, we believe that no dispute is worth taking someone’s life.”

“We are determined to support the RVIPF in bringing to account those responsible for murders and other acts of gun violence, and we call on the entire community to help to bring these perpetrators to justice,” they added.
