Temporary water plants being shipped to BVI

Temporary water plants will be shipped to Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, and Tortola so running water can return to the entire territory in about a month.

Works Minister, Mark Vanterpool, made the announcement on Friday, adding that water has been restored to the island of Anegada already.

He said the new plant for Virgin Gorda will produce 200,000 gallons of water per day.

“I know we are arranging a ship to Curacao to collect a temporary plant that we have identified there to come in. The plant is available to be shipped next Monday (today)… We’re trying to get that in as soon as possible to take care of Virgin Gorda,” said Vanterpool.

He added that Jost Van Dyke residents will receive a plant that produces 40,000 gallon per day. “We’re working to fly that in to us from the United Kingdom.”

“We are also looking at a 200,000 gallon plant that we’re sourcing to put in the Sea Cow’s Bay area to assist that western end of the island (Tortola) to have water on a regular basis.”

“We’re investigating the Capoon’s Bay plant right now to see how and what we can do to get up there running also… We should have water available to most residents within the next 30 to 45 days throughout the territory,” said Vanterpool.

The minister said while workers address the issue of broken pipelines, other areas on Tortola will receive water two hours each day.

“Gradually we will be increasing that supply to longer times in the day as we get things running a little more smoothly.”

Vanterpool said release times will be announced on radio.

“More than likely we are going to be looking perhaps at the early morning period for a short period, and the afternoon period for another short period. We’re trying to work that out right now.”
