PRESS RELEASE: In an effort to further enhance the teaching and learning process for students of the territory, the Ministry of Education and Culture will integrate the use of digital textbooks in the classroom for students in grades 7 and 8.

The eBooks, which will be introduced in lieu of traditional textbooks, will present a multisensory approach to the traditional way in which information is presented to students.

Subjects available on the eBooks include Mathematics, English, Spanish, Science, Physical Education and Social Studies and will feature written texts, interactive activities, videos, virtual labs, quizzes, editing options for teachers and feedback for students.

Minister of Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V Walwyn is confident that the digital textbooks will enhance the teaching and learning process in the education system.

The Ministry of Education and Culture will launch and distribute the digital textbooks during a ceremony to be held at the New Testament Church of God International Worship Centre on Tuesday, 14th November at 4:30pm on Tortola.

On Virgin Gorda, the launch and distribution will take place at the Virgin Gorda Assembly of God at 4pm on Wednesday, November 15.

The launch and distribution will be held on Anegada at the Claudia Creque Educational Centre during regular school hours on Friday, November 17.

The Ministry requires the attendance of a parent or guardian and student at the event on Tuesday as the device will be placed in the care of the parent or guardian.

The Ministry requires parents or guardians to present a valid form of identification, pay a fee of $125, and sign a written agreement on Tuesday in order to receive the digital textbook for their child.

The introduction of the digital textbooks is a part of the Virgin Islands Digital Education programme, which provides technological educational opportunities that are geared towards the educational advancement of students of the Virgin Islands.
