Persons whose visas expire while they are seeking refuge outside the territory because of the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma will be allowed to return.

Works Minister, Mark Vanterpool gave the assurance to a group of concerned residents on Monday, noting that he will be discussing the matter of special arrangements with the premier.

“Those who want to leave and your visa might be expired and you want to come back, I am going to discuss the matter with the Premier who is in charge of immigration to make sure you have a special arrangement to come back because of the circumstances,” said Vanterpool.

He warned also that persons who had their visas and other important documents damaged during the hurricane must move swiftly to report the matter to the respective offices as soon as they are opened.

“You have to understand that in the circumstances, the Government is going to be lenient to make sure all these things are fixed after we get back on track. So don’t worry about that, we are going to be lenient until we can get this back. In the meantime, don’t worry, ‘Supa Cop’ won’t arrest you because your licence is expired,” he added.
