Three months extension for duty-free imports

Premier Dr D Orlando Smith

Premier Dr. D Orlando Smith said the Government has decided to extend duty-free exemptions that was announced for certain items being imported into the territory.

The exemption will run for another three months, he said while addressing the House of Assembly last night.

“What we plan to do Madam Speaker is to extend the duty exemption on building materials for another three months – household furniture for another three months, vehicles for another three months and also parts for another three months,” he said.

“This is important because we do recognize that many persons would not have gotten the finance…and therefore it is important that everybody benefits from this exemption and that we should extend it for another three months.”

He informed that the issue will be further discussed when the House meets again today.

Included on the duty-free list are building materials, electrical fixtures, food, water, plumbing materials, household furniture, appliances, pharmaceuticals, generators, cleaning supplies, motor vehicle and car parts.
