Ticket prices for Miss BVI pageant spark social media reactions

As seven contestants get ready to compete in this year’s Miss BVI Pageant, some social media users have highlighted the cost of tickets to attend the show.

The Virgin Islands Festival & Fairs Committee (VIFFC) posted the price of the tickets on its official social media page recently, citing $70 as the cost for regular tickets, a price range between $100 and $160 for what was described as the “platinum experience,” and $1,300 for its “ultimate platinum experience” package.

Some Facebook users jested and expressed shock at the ticket prices, particularly regarding the ultimate platinum experience, which covers a group of seven persons. At least one social media user questioned whether the $1,300 cited was a typographical error.

In highlighting the priciness of the ultimate experience, another user joked about whether the package would also include receiving spa treatment, food and drinks, an outfit for the event, transportation home, and other red carpet and ultra-VIP treatments.

The VIFFC responded to the posts stating that the Miss British Virgin Islands pageant committee will give details about what the ultimate platinum experience entails at a later time.

In the meanwhile, BVI News took to the streets of the territory’s capital, Road Town, to learn the perspective of the wider community traversing that area. Although many individuals indicated their indifference to the event, the few who said they intended to attend insisted that the price of tickets was steep.

The Miss BVI Pageant is slated for July 21 this year, and forms part of the territory’s 70th Emancipation Festival activities. During the pageant’s first staging back in 1975, Iris Penn O’Neal was crowned the first-ever Miss BVI. Anika Christopher was crowned Miss BVI 2023 at last year’s pageant.

The young women competing in this year’s pageant are:

Contestant #1: Adacia R. Adonis
Contestant #2: Akesha K. Roberts
Contestant #3: Circe A. O’Neal
Contestant #4: Stacy-ann J. Bobb
Contestant #5: Neria S. R. Griffith
Contestant #6: Shanta L. Connor
Contestant #7: Donyelle D. Hodge

Because it is the 70th does not mean that you guys should price gouge people with the ridiculous price of the tickets.

It is all about the MULAH, BAG, GRIP, RACK , whatever they call it. ITS ALL ABOUT WHO IS GOING TO BENEFIT AND WHOS POCKETS IS GOING TO GET GREASED. THEY ALREADY SAT IN THE BACKROOM AND START THE SCAMMING. $1,300 dollars? ARE THEY SERIOUS? FOR that price, they had better give the expensive ticket holders THE GOLDEN GLOBES AWARD TREATMENT.

That is exactly what my daughter and I plan to do. That $2, 600.00 will be well spent on some serious retail therapy hitting up the Mall in Miami.

      • @@LMAO says:

$1300 is not the cost for one person, that price is for 7 persons which works out to about $185.00 per person. Depending on what is included in the package it might be a fair bargain. I think the Pageant and Festival Committees dropped the ball here somewhat. In rolling out the ticket prices they should have clearly articulated what are the add-ons that come with each fee structure.

The cost of the tickets honestly do not offend me, but knowing that the VIP tickets are already sold out even before they go on sale upsets me.

Others are on a waiting list for tickets being sold on an online platform – HOW? Let’s stop this underhanded behaviour.

  8. Miss says:

The prices are a bit much for a queen show and to possibly end up sitting on uncomfortable bleachers. I wouldn’t mind if we were getting drinks or something with that price. just because it’s the 70th doesn’t mean they had to charge $70.

  10. ARE THESE JOKERS SERIOUS ? says:

When they done squander our taxpayers money on everything except fixing our infrastructure, now thr want to get back from the people ? Andy & Vincent used moneygram to DOUBLE TAX them island people , now this gimmick isn’t going to work because the people can boycott it , so it’s going to kill the energy of the people to support the event , plus money is shortage already in effect , they cannot
afford it , FOOD COMES FIRST

  11. SMH says:

Prices are outrageous! They want the l residents to support these shows, but shows no compassion in allowing them to be able to do. Come on! Who came up with these prices? The people are already struggling and only hearing promises of dealing with minimum wage crisis but yet the committee of these social events want to drain water from blue bitch rocks. Instead of things getting a step forward, we are headfast going backwards hastily. Time to STOP THE MADNESS!!!

    • SKETS? says:

While I understand what the word skets suggests I’d like to say that I cannot endorse that. I don’t know the ladies but a judger is a sinner. However, I suggest you first take into consideration that whoever chose that dress to introduce the young ladies had them looking like said skets. I would think that as this is some kind of coming out for local young ladies something that was becoming, stylish, but less revealing, might have worked just as well as those thigh baring numbers.

      • @ SKETS? says:

A judger is NOT a sinner as there is righteous judgment.

John 7:24 tells us, “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” The Bible has told us to judge, but we are to judge by what is right. We are not to condemn, and we are not to be judgmental.

Now about that attire…don’t forget the stripper shoes smh

  14. So far says:

The 70th is going to be a flop. Sans everything done in this place always turns out to be low class.

    What about the calypso show?

  16. This is me says:

If I am going to pay $1,300 for a ticket, they better serve my drinks in a crystal glass not a cheap plastic cup . I will not spend all that money to use a Porter potty as well.

  17. Me says:

Given these ridiculous prices I will not be attending. If more persons do this then the show will only have the contestants and their family.
Is that what they want? How will the girls feel when they look out to the audience and only see a handful of people? These prices will limit the number of people who are interested to go.

  18. Ausar says:

Well, 70 USD, is outrageous, to say the least!

    WHY?

I say, 50 USD, would have been a great price, commensurate, for the times, in which we live!

Now, can one explain the amenities, accompanying each fee schedule?

1,300 USD, would, to me, have to have, an exquisite dining arrangement,an exquisite dining, and drinking accoutrements-to include utensils, and, even perhaps, a facial or massage, to compliment the visual realities of the evening!

    I will await the updates..

  19. And y’all wonder why… says:

The kids sellin Kilos. U gotta sell a brick just to go queen show is crazy. Ya better raise minimum wage if this wat tings leading to

  20. Telling Y’all says:

You all better better give the $70.00 Queen show tickert holders a swag bag.

  21. Oh my says:

Is this the money to cover the music fest loss. This is madness

  22. Biggest hater (KD ) says:

So ticket prices could raise to this extent for “local” events

But it’s hard to raise minimum wage to match these demands?

It’s hard for y’all to do a proper price control and not the nonsense y’all passed?

Soon it will be just the wealthy government family drugman and friends attending these events

That what y’all probably want anyways

Hopefully there’s domestic issues between yall cuz y’all is one set of nasty disloyal people.

  23. Last Pageant says:

The ticket prices are high because this is the last beauty pageant in the BVI.

  24. Those says:

who set those prices are the same beings who would use terms like drunkard, crack head, whore, weed head and others to belittle, cast down and otherwise stigmatize people, and place them into an unfavorable societal position and painting them as unworthy and trash.

Whem in reality, they are no better. They are suffering from the same compulsive disorder called addiction.

The same identical disorder different substance of abuse. In this case, an incessant compulsion to collect more and more money.

An uncontroable urge to see their pockets and bank accounts bulge to over flowing, and they will still cannot get enough. That is the definition and manifestation of an obsessive, compulsive addictive disorder.

But they will quickly put others in their unknowledgeable box and refer to them as crack heads, drunks whores, etc.. not seeig nor knowing the condition of theirown state of mind.

The term “moneyheads” is a cmlement in todays society, evenif. theyare selling cocaine and crack to make people addicted and they reap the profits.

  25. Hey, Hey, Hey says:

FOR THE 70th, WE ARE ALL GETTING PRICE GOUGED. AT LEAST VILLAGE NIGHTS SHOULD BE FREE ADMISSION. YOU HAVE TO PAY TO GET IN AND THEN TURN AROUND AND PAY FOR FOOD AND DRINKS. FREE ADMISSON, MORE PEOPLE WOULD TURN UP AND SPEND THE MONEY INSIDE THE VILLAGE.THE VENDERS WILL DO MUCH BETTER AS WELL. DOSEN’T THAT MAKE SENSE?

  26. HUH??? says:
