Tortola Ladies Club rakes in over $17K for FSN
The Tortola Ladies Club (TLC) has surpassed their goal of raising $10,000 in 10 days for the Family Support Network (FSN).
The 10-day challenge ran from April 10 to 20.
“It came to just over $17,000 and we are absolutely thrilled,” Executive member of TLC Sharon Burrill told BVI News.
Donations were made via donation jars at various business establishments on Tortola, online via onelovebvi.org, or given directly to members of the club.
“We had about $3,500 that we got from online donations, we got about $3,500 in cash from the various jars that were around Road Town and about $10,000 in cheques,” she said.
Public generous
According to Burrill, members of the public were happy to donate to the cause.
“We were very, very happily surprised at how welcoming people were as soon as we said what we were doing. Almost everyone that we approached wanted to contribute, so that was terrific.”
“We are just overwhelmed, and thankful and grateful,” she continued. “I think it just speaks to how the community wants to help when they are given an opportunity to.”
When TLC’s Board of Directors meet on Wednesday, the decision will be made on the exact date that the funds will be officially handed over to the FSN.
The club’s main annual fundraiser for FSN – ‘Dancing Under the Stars’ – is usually held in January at Government House. But, due to a number of reasons, it was not held this year.
Meanwhile, President of the Board of Directors at FSN Judith Charles told BVI News in an earlier interview that the funds would be channelled towards the charity-based institution’s upkeep.
