Trade Commission debacle was unnecessary
Political commentator Cindy Rosan has posited that the uproar relating to the suspension the Trade Commission was unnecessary.
The issue of the Trade Commission’s delay was first highlighted by Eighth District Representative Marlon Penn who had previously done significant work to establish the institution when he sat on the government side. He said Trade Minister Lorna Smith was delaying the Commission despite the great need for it in the society.
But speaking on Tola Radio yesterday, Rosan said the public debacle that ensued was “much ado about nothing.”
“The whole drama with the Trade Commission Act was a bit over the top. A couple months ago, Honourable Marlon Penn raised issues with the Trade Commission and Trade Commission operating at the same time and when the Minister for the subject moved to address it, it was still a problem,” Rosan pointed out.
She said Penn was the main Opposition member who had a problem with the suspension, adding that Opposition leader Ronnie Skelton didn’t even have enough knowledge of the issue when she asked him about it at a press conference last week.
“I threw that question to the Leader of the Opposition and his response was that ‘I haven’t really looked at the Trade Commission Act’. To me that was very concerning,” Rosan said.
The outspoken commentator has admitted that she is a supporter of Minister Smith, but also said she has no issues with Penn.
But she maintained that it seems the Trade Commission debacle was raised to “stir up the people.” She also said as someone with a platform, she always tries not to cause a stir in the public domain if it’s not necessary.

If it’s one thing this year teach us is that this lady is a hypocrite. If it was the premier do some nonsense like this you would a never hear the end of it but because its her friend its not a big deal. Now she trying to put Skelton on the spot to try and further deflect from the reality that the friend doing a bag of F**k and probably not as brilliant as they would have us believe. At the same time don’t be fooled, Penn being so aggressive on this topic has nothing to do with what’s best for the BVI this was an opportunity for him to stick it to the person that pull the rug out from under him; but he was not wrong that’s why they had to go suspend the Act.
That’s a lie. She does have issues with Penn. But she has Lorner’s back
