Travesty! Fraser pleads for reopening of SCB community centre
Third District Representative Julian Fraser has said it is a “travesty” that the Valerie O Thomas Community Centre remains inaccessible to his constituents and that a cloud of uncertainty still exists in relation to the state of the facility.
The Sea Cow’s Bay-based community centre was damaged extensively during the September 2017 hurricanes that ravaged the territory.
While speaking in the House of Assembly recently, Fraser asked for the recently appointed Health & Social Development Minister, Marlon Penn, to pay close attention to having the building reopened.
“Our seniors have no place to go and that’s a travesty,“ Fraser stated.
He also noted that it would be nice if his constituents can once again attend planned community meetings at the facility.
In January and August of 2021, Fraser said he made a report that the rehabilitation at the community centre was moving along quite well and that he saw hope, but subsequent to this, things have stalled.
But in November of that year, Fraser said while repairs appeared to be finished, the centre was shut down.
The legislator said he was disappointed at the state of affairs and said in another report that it was time for the building to reopen.
According to Fraser, the last time the building was used was at a public meeting he held in January 2020.
“Since that time to this day, it has not been used for anything, public or otherwise,“ Fraser complained.

Not quite true. It was used for covid testing during 2020. Still needs to be reopened.
dude doesn’t leave his house to roam through the district so he wouldn’t. know if a supermarket Is opened or closed
We love our beloved hard working Fraser because he gets the job done!
So as the new leader of the minority opposition, Fraser has found his voice once again. East End/Long Look Community Center isn’t opened either but the seniors meet twice a week. The Churches have steeped up and host the program. So Methodist Church has an empty building in Sea Cows Bay, can it not be used to host seniors until the repairs are complete? As long as there is something to complain about, they feel good and some of us feel they doing it for us. In the land of the blind One eye IS truly king!!!
To me the biggest TRAVESTY in the BVI is the Pockwood Fiasco poisoning people. What can you do about that Mr. Fraser? BUT you don’t hear a word about that… NADA…MUM is the word. A huge set of JOKERS ran the BVI for years and history is repeating itself…They still they talking crap and doing piss!
