Two arrested at sea for gun and ammo possession

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) arrested two men who were reportedly found in possession of an illegal gun and ammunition during a routine patrol near Frenchman Cay on Thursday, November 14.

Richard Baronville, 32, of Long Bush, and Khalid Smith, 24, of the USVI, were detained after a search of their vessel uncovered the illegal items. The Virgin Islands Law Enforcement Marine Base Joint Task Force, in collaboration with RVIPF officers and His Majesty’s Customs, conducted the patrol that led to the discovery.

The men were charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Explosives. They remain in custody and await their appearance before the Magistrate’s Court.

This arrest comes as the RVIPF addresses increasing concerns about gun violence in the territory. Detective Chief Inspector Davis urged community collaboration to combat illegal firearms and safeguard neighborhoods.

“It is vital that we work together to remove this threat to peace and safety in our neighborhoods. The safety of our young people and our community depends on everyone’s commitment to saying NO to violence and criminal behavior,” Davis emphasized.

The RVIPF is encouraging the public to assist in the fight against gun violence by reporting any relevant information. Confidential tips can be provided through Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS), overseas at 284-800-8477, or the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.

The force reassured the public that all information shared will remain strictly confidential.
