Two men charged in recent burglary incidents
Two men have been charged following a number of reported burglaries at various business places, including one man who is said to be the son of a senior police officer.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) disclosed yesterday that Glenville Callwood, 28, of Baugher’s Bay, was charged with burglary of Blossoms Florist. Police said the man was granted bail in the sum of $5,000 to appear at the Magistrate’s Court on October 11, 2023.
Information reaching BVI News in the matter suggested that the accused burglar broke into the property during after-work hours last Thursday and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
It is understood that he was caught on camera and police were summoned sometime after.
Meanwhile, it was also disclosed that Howard Hughes, 53, of no fixed place of abode, was also charged with burglary of the Family Support Network. Hughes previously appeared before the Magistrate’s Court and was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison at Balsum Ghut.
Acting Commissioner of Police, St Clair Amory, commended the officers involved in the arrest of the two suspects. “I am extremely pleased with the swift and decisive action taken by the Criminal Investigations Department in apprehending and charging these suspects.
The RVIPF said its remarkable display of persistence serves as a powerful reassurance to the community that law enforcement officers are unwavering in their commitment to combat crime and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
The RVIPF called on persons with information about any burglary to call the Crime Stoppers line at 800-8477-(TIPS) or overseas on 1-284-800-8477 or contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.
