UK national is BVI’s new prison boss

United Kingdom (UK) national, Jay Kendall, has been appointed Superintendent of Prisons.

The appointment was effective from 30 October 2023 and will see Kendall being responsible for the oversight of all prison operations, as well as the enforcement of applicable laws and policies at His Majesty’s Prison in Balsum Ghut.

Kendall brings more than 17 years of experience in the criminal justice system to the role and most recently served as the Superintendent of Prisons on Saint Helena Island.

While there, Kendall reportedly designed and implemented the prison’s five-year development plan, as well as worked to progress the new prison build project on the island.

He also served as Operational Head of Function at HM Prison and Probation Service in the United Kingdom, as well as the OASys Operational Support Manager in the Ministry of Justice, among other roles and functions in the criminal justice system.

Minister responsible for prisons, Vincent Wheatley, expressed elation and welcomed Kendall to the post of Superintendent of Prison for the territory.

“Kendall comes to the territory with a wealth of knowledge and experience. I am confident he will bring this experience, which will help to support and propel the rehabilitation and security of the prison system of the Virgin Islands,” Wheatley commented.

Meanwhile, Acting Governor, David Archer Jr described Kendall’s appointment as “a step forward” as the territory continues to evolve a vital branch of the Public Service.

“We have a mandate to ensure that qualified and capable professionals are in place to provide impactful leadership, and I am confident in Kendall’s ability to do so,” Archer said.

Kendall expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the post and shared an outlook for his future in the role.

“Any opportunity to serve the public is one that should not be taken lightly. I am delighted and humbled to serve and provide leadership as the Superintendent of Prisons,” Kendall stated.

He added: “I have a strong commitment to the forward advancement of the criminal justice system, which will not waver in this role.”

This appointee is an insult to the people of the BVI.

It represents the reality and expansion of the colonial neocolonial system that does not respect the inhabitants of the country, and, behaves in a manner which suggest that they have first preferrence to certain jobs and full privilidge to act as they please in another countrythat is nottheirs…

These kinds of practices must come to an end. Sadly, the people do not see this as a thtreat to thier wel-being. They think and feel that they are less than them and they have to go along with stuff lie this, even though it is wrong from top to bottom.

The worse are your neighboring loathsome cursed hand to mouth ” Independent” Countries with poverty as their calling card.. UK discrimination laws, rights are in place when and if needed and is a Heaven compared to Guiana,Venezuela,Jamaica,Dominica Republic( a sanctioned genocidal field for the last breath of black humanity fir many years ongoing.
Currently Guiana is fighting tooth and nail against inquiry and investigations the UN and US about their discriminatory practices. There massive and oppressive presence fir the most part in the VI, is abominably self serving and destructive to the decency of these VI and the character of its fine folks which includes those from the UK.

You need to do these things:

    1) drop from your mind the notion of raciallism, it eatsaway at the soul.

2). Engage the mind in some worth while reading and study.

    3) Go back to your swamp and drink some tea.

    4) Do leave decent people and their business alone.

Why is it that vermin always have to be like tail behind Black people?

  10. @ Not Fair ata All says:

What is not fair? If All Virgin Islanders are related how can they effectively manage situations
at the Prison and any entity in the Virgin Islands?
Who do you wish for the Post? A Jamaican? A Guyanese? Lord knows they have enough in their Countries to deal with, Their help is most needed in their Countries.

We WELCOME Mr. Kendall and hope that his tenure here will yield much positive gains for helping to curb or detour Crime in our Territory. We ALL need to support him in his efforts and wish well for that entity.
