UK’s treatment of BVI is like Putin in Ukraine war — Willock
The United Kingdom’s treatment of the BVI has been equated to the devastating and oppressive invasion of the Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin over the past year.
This is according to former Speaker of the House of Assembly (HOA) Julian Willock who has argued consistently that the UK’s treatment of the territory in the wake of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) has been unfair and imbalanced.
“What Putin is doing to those people in the Ukraine is horrible. And I hear that one politician in our House of Assembly said that we’re almost facing the same thing, but by the UK. Yeah, yeah. It’s very equivalent,” said Willock during his appearance on a Tola Radio recently.
But even in his strident condemnation of the UK, the former Speaker offered some mitigation on behalf of the territory’s administrating power.
“We may not be getting the bombs on us, but we’re getting trumped up charges, we’re getting mental trouble, we’re getting character assassination, we’re getting all sorts of stuff,” Willock said. “The only thing that’s different is Putin is throwing bombs on them, killing women and children.”

According to Willock, the BVI hasn’t quite arrived at that stage just yet and he prays to God that, “we don’t reach that stage”.
Willock further argued that the BVI was at a critical and unprecedented juncture in its history, losing its former Premier Andrew Fahie “to the legal system in the United States”.
He also contended that many locals have been arrested and charged “frivolously for Breach of Trust”, which he suggested is never a good thing.
“They [UK] tried all those same things in the Turks and Caicos Islands,” he said of the nearby territory which also faced a COI over a decade ago.
“Ten, 15 years later some of them are still in court. [There is] no justice. They even don’t know what they went to court for. [They’re] in poverty paying lawyers. So, we have to stay awake in this country against those things.”

These rich people experience one single drop of accountability and immediately equate it to an actual devasting war happening across the planet. This country deserves to be free from UK rule, but we also deserve to be free from this level of incompetence and corruption from our local leaders
Mr. Willock’s opinion is either ill-informed or engaging in PR tactics to muddy the fact that the BVIs, as a self-governing territory, has done a poor job to say the least. Nonetheless, the UK will not be sending its military here to take over the place.
They never needed an army to defeat slaves, they see blacks as weak, 1/2 human, conquered easy mentality and the fear of the crack of a whip for their blood turn cold.
