Unrealistic COI deadlines required extension — Premier
Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has blamed what he described as unrealistic deadlines for the slow progress in implementing some of the reforms by the agreed deadlines outlined in the Framework Agreement document between the United Kingdom and the BVI.
“Recently, we requested some extended deadlines. Some of the initial deadlines were unrealistic,” Premier Wheatley said. “Let’s just call it what it was. They weren’t realistic and they didn’t take into account certain things that had to be done. But I’m very pleased with the amount of work which has taken place.”
The Premier also praised public officers for working diligently to ensure targets were met and said he was confident that extended deadlines will now be met.
He added: “And it’s not just — as we’ve been saying — a box-ticking exercise. We’re not seeking just to complete tasks, but we want to have real transformative change.”
Premier Wheatley explained that the reforms are part of a democratic process and suggested that it was critical for the public to become involved in the process.
”That is why we’re calling on all our citizens and residents to participate in our consultations,” Premier Wheatley said. “When we have policies which go up on the government website for commentary, take that seriously, because these are policies which will ultimately have an impact on the public and an impact on the way that government does its business and serves the public.”
Governor John Rankin had commended the government for improvements in completing some of the reform recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report.
But Rankin also took the government to task over an inability to have some reforms ‘take root’ in time for them to be effective by the agreed deadlines.
“For reform to have ‘taken root’ no later than May 2024, there will need to be evidence of improvement,” Rankin said in his latest quarterly report on the implementation of COI reforms.

But it was this same Premier that gave those deadlines to the UK. He was so anxious to become Premier after Fahie got arrested that he said and did anything to get it. He presented these unrealistic deadlines for his own benefit and now he is complaining about them? This man is unbelievable!
Can you imagine! He just admitted that he has no clue about what is realistic and what is not. He has no idea what it takes to create and implement policies. He has no idea, no knowledge, no skill, no experience. All he knows how to do is present his passport at a ticket counter, hop on a plane, take pictures then talk lies about what was a success. What does someone who is a failure know about success? Like really analyse it. He called a doa 250,000 party a success. Trip to Monaco while BVI is suffering from a crumbled infrastructure is a success. Unsuccessful handling of situation at the high school that left most students traumatized is a success. At this point, I really wonder as someone previously pointed out, whether he can manage as much as a lemonade stand, successfully. Failing leadership can never result in a country’s success. Let that sit with the people.
The deadlines are not unrealistic, you just choose:
– to keep focussing on same sex marriage (who cares. Really)
– to go on fun trips to boat shows even though you know nothing about tourism
– to bash the AG for pointing the finger at your corrupt friends
– to keep talking about independence
You get nothing done as you focus on petty wars and side projects instead of improving territory.
You signed the papers, knowing what the deadlines were and now say they are unreasonable. You then cry to whoever will listen that the order in council is unfair and unjustified. Beyond ridiculous, were it not for people’s lives being affected, this would be comedy.
These people wants to go for Independence???Imagine how can they rule country?
If you realize, all this man does do is blame others for the state of everything and complain and make excuses about what is expected of him. He is not a leader I feel so bad for my country and it’s people.
We understand that nothing ever is accomplished on time in the BVI so no problem with an extension of each of the 40+ recommendations.
BUT it will cost you so starting 1 May 2024:
1) Each non government employed person in the BVI is paid $100/day by the BVI government for each extension;
2) Payment of active government employees is suspended until all the extensions are lifted and the 40+ recommendations are complete
This proposal is the ‘stimulus’ to get all 40+ recs done by May 2024.
This primier really a cl**n lordy help us in this place
Buss chess soon
The snow minks are are trolling, as usual. Are they residents, overseas, spies or other?
“I think that we need extra time”.
Said the Premier fresh from his lime.
“This place aint a ruin
I know what I’m doin
Being useless isn’t a crime”.
The UK just patiently waiting until May next year. You think Rankin keep bringing it up for style? Better stop complaining and do what you say you gonna do in the time you say you gonna do it instead of traveling all over the place and running and complaining to the UN who not studying you. Who you think people going to blame? Don’t make that your legacy.
You so hate the people of the BVI, but love their money, economy, standard of living and way of life, that you can’t wait for a force more powerful than you to come in and take over, so you can wezzle your way in and stuff your ass full on easy gained lute.
The unpigmented will never change his spots.
