Unvaccinated persons, slow uptake in Pfizer boosters a concern

Health Minister Carvin Malone

Health Minister Carvin Malone has expressed concern about the pace at which persons in the territory are moving to get vaccinated.

In a post on the Minister’s Facebook page recently, Malone described the pace as “slow”.

He stated: “I remain concerned about the extremely slow uptake of the Pfizer vaccine booster shots and the number of persons unvaccinated in the BVI.”

In the most recent epidemiological summary released by the Health Ministry, it was shown that 17,267 persons had been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus while some 1,577 persons had been listed as partially vaccinated.

According to Malone, reports throughout the world speak of the need to reduce hospitalisations and deaths through the administration of vaccines.

He further noted that the BVI’s golden gems – a nickname he has given to the senior citizen residents of the territory – as well as its children are those deemed to be the ones who are most at risk.

“As the world continues to drop all precautions, it is more critical than before that each of us does our part and vaccinate,” Malone added.

In his post, the Health Minister referenced an article carried by the neighbouring US Virgin Islands Daily Newspaper which stated that the US death toll from COVID had reached the 900,000 mark and was sped up by the Omicron variant.

Meanwhile, Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronald Georges endorsed the minister’s sentiments in a recent release and continued to advocate for persons to be vaccinated.

“Developing immunity through vaccination will reduce the risk of severe disease particularly among the vulnerable who are more at risk of more severe disease and complications of COVID-19,” Dr Georges stated.

The Chief Medical Officer explained that people at increased risk of developing severe illness from COVID-19 include older or elderly adults and people with underlying medical conditions such as asthma, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, pulmonary, liver or kidney disease, as well as those who have immunocompromised such as persons on treatment for cancer or who are on immunosuppressive medications.

  4. Unvaccinated need to pay more for healthcare says:

They say its their choice to remain unvaccinated since its their body. Ok. Fair enough. If they wish to remain unvaccinated and subsequently become ill with covid, they need to pay more for any health services they may need to save their lives or stay home and deal with the illness on their own. Let them drink all the bush they desire.

I don’t want my tax dollars going to pay medical bills for ignorant people who are stuck on stupid. Ive had it with them.

Dont want to take a covid shot to save themselves but I would bet they will not have a problem going to St. Thomas to buy greasy Kentucky Fried Chicken that clogs up their arteries and make them fat.

Tax them! Enough of their idiotic bs!

@Unvaccinated need to pay more for healthcare

Fair enough by that approach we should let cigarette smokers, alcoholics, drug users, obese people, drivers who don’t wear seatbelts, young fellas who ride scooters etc etc. pay more for their insurance.

So only unhealthy people opting not to take the shot? Don’t you think that unhealthy people may just take the shot to protect themselves but that may well be a false sense of security? Taking a shortcut instead of working on their fitness and building up their immune system via natural means?

Say one, say two!.. If you do not want your tax dollars to pay for their Healthcare, why should theirs be used to help you if need be?! Yuh too bad mind, you sheeple of a human! Last time I checked, the only person one should listen too about their beliefs is thyself! Are you, or all of these ministers God?! Please say your prayers and ask for forgiveness for that selfish statement!

While the ‘Not out of the woods’ Minister had us focused on covid his Cronies were giving themselves fat raises.

      @ Solution

Remove us along with our contributions. The NHI is a sinking boat so best to get out now. Just like the crooked politicians tried to do months ago.

I am sure no PRIVATE insurance is charging more for the UNVACCINATED.
