Urgent action needed to address surge in crime
Opposition Leader Marlon Penn has called on the government and the National Security Council (NSC) to roll out “strong and urgent action” to address the glaring incidents of serious crime affecting the territory over the last few months.
Penn made this call a day after 38-year-old Long Trench resident, Deverson Williams was shot and killed while travelling through Fish Bay on Tuesday.
Let me make it clear, the National Security Council is responsible for the safety and security if the territory. The members of the national security council include the governor, the Premier and Deputy Premier, Commissioner of Police, and Attorney General,” the Opposition Leader stated.
“The recent surge in crimes leave a negative impact on our economy and our overall quality of life. Hence, it is the responsibility of the Premier and his government to deploy whatever resources are needed by law enforcement to maintain the safety and security of our people and our economy,” Penn added while noting that businesses are already struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Penn also renewed calls for persons with information to come forward to help solve crimes.
In the meantime, Premier Andrew Fahie has made it clear that his “government will not allow the actions of few individuals to endanger the welfare of the BVI and our economy”.
“This is not the time, the place and country for crime. This is a place where there is BVI Love and we as the government and as a people has to work hand and give to ensure this,” Fahie said.
Police have arrested two persons in connection to yesterday’s murder, so far.

What would you do to combat it though, we’re all listening & looking for ideas. Throw some ideas out to the gen pop & let’s discuss them.
If Fahie says the earth is round, Marlon would say the earth is flat just to disagree.
As he should. Because we all know that Andy Fahie is so great at telling the truth? In my most sarcastic voice.
