Urgent fix needed in education! Past minister ‘extremely concerned’
Former Education Minister Myron Walwyn has said an urgent fix is needed for apparent issues that have arisen in the BVI’s Education system.
“I am extremely concerned!” Walwyn said in a Facebook post last evening.
“Whatever issues we are having that are affecting the educational pursuits of our children, let us get them fixed urgently,” the former National Democratic Party chairman and two-term legislator said.
Walwyn’s concerns come on the heels of news that there are to be no further face-to-face classes for junior students at the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) for the remainder of the academic term.
“Parents, guardians and students are reminded that there will be no more face-to-face sessions for grades 7-9 (Junior) for the remainder of the term,” a brief post on the school’s RAMS Media Group Facebook page noted.
According to the post, classes and end-of-term assessments for the junior high students will continue through the various online learning platforms for the rest of the term.
In early May, just at the beginning of the new school term, a planned shift system was suddenly and abruptly cancelled with little notice and no explanation at the time to ESHS students and parents.
Furthermore, the current Education Minister, Dr Natalio Wheatley said persons are trying to mislead others about the state of the reconstruction of the school.
“There are some persons out there who are genuinely frustrated, and they mean well, but there are other persons out there who have agendas, and who are seeking to mislead people,” Dr Wheatley said last month on the VIP’s Let’s Talk radio show.
“Nothing could be further from the truth,” the Minister insisted in response to persons who are alleging that nothing is being done to rebuild the main campus at ESHS.
“It’s dangerous to speak about things when you do not have the facts,” Dr Wheatley added.
The main campus of the Elmore Stoutt High School had been severely damaged since the 2017 hurricanes. But repairs were started and completed on the L-shaped building on the campus to accommodate junior students.

The VIP made sure all the bars and night clubs were up to date and did nothing for our schools
FACTS! Sheep ensured he met with bar owners instead of parents. The Decastro one ain’t speak up yet.
Parents need to hit the road with Cindy and Kishma.
For real parents, we need to seriously hit the road with CINDY AND KISHMA. DO IT FOR OUR CHILDREN. WHAT OTHER OPTIONS DO WE HAVE AS PARENTS. WE ARE STRESSED OUT WORRYING ABOUT OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE.
If people start getting an education, they will starting thinking and asking questions. That’s not been in the script for the BVI.
And why do we still have school apartheid? What good does it do anyone?
That’s the man right there. I miss you big dawg.
What about the projects implemented for primary schools? Why so many?
I like that you are not criticizing or casting blame for political points. We do have a problem. Let’s get it fixed. I wish you were there. I know things would have been much better.
199% CORRECT. This is not for any political points, this is coming from his heart as a caring person. Honestly, he needs to come back.
You’re right. If he was in, those children would have never been out so long.
Why are they still home.
The private schools are in full swing,
SOME TEACHERS THROW HIM UNDER THE BUS. BUT NOW THEY WISHED HE WAS THERE. HE ALWAYS HAD A PLAN. THE CURRENT MINISTER IS CLUELESS.
The priorities of our country are mixed up. We find money to spend on all sort of unnecessary things. The pockets of cronies are being lined. Politicians are making laws to take care of themselves and family while our children do not have furniture to sit on in schools. It a burning shame. We have money to hand out to people who neither farm or fish and our kids future is withering away.
We need Hon. Walwyn back as Minister of Education! The biggest mistake of last elections was voting out good ministers like himself. Say what you want about him but we would not be in this mess if he was the Minister.
As the captain would say, pad up Walwyn you are in next. You are the only credible Premier in waiting. I said to you late last year now is the time to get your team in place. There are always advantages and disadvantages in surprises. Let the people know what your plans are and who are the members of your team. Please form a shadow government and allow them to address issues affecting the territory. Let us see their performance early so that we can have confidence in your team. Do it for the love of country. I do really believe that a lot of the pool is really tainted, and void of real plans. I implore you to search among the business community, involve some young college grads even if you need to look outside the territory. Bring a fresh team. We believe that you are the only person capable of lifting us out of this abyss. Bring back conventional government and leadership to the islands.
Why you didn’t fix it while you were there. rife
Here you come with the untruths. What is wrong with some of you people? Could all the schools be fixed all at once after the hurricanes? Myron fixed as much as could be fix during the time between the hurricane and election. The VIP has been in government longer than that time and have not fixed one school yet. What have they fixed? They are taking credit for ESHS but all of us who worked on that project know that they are being untruthful again. I worked with Minister Walwyn and I know that he can get things done and he was good for education. Stop misleading people when you don’t know anything.
Education is paramount to the growth of any country, so if we NOT getting this right then we should not focus on anything else. The future of our children should be the most important thing here, after proper healthcare for the nation…where are the priorities of this government. Something is just not right..
YOU NEVER MISS THE WATER UNTILL THE WELL RUNS DRY, IF I HAD ONLY KNOWN ALWAYS COMES TO LATE. MYRON WAS THE BEST EDUCATION MINISTER WE HAD. HE WOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT TO DO. OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM IS IN SHAMBLES.
I support this message by the former minister. I am frustrated and concerned for the future of my two children. They will never regain the time they have lost. The education system is completely disorganized and in need of attention.
PLEASE BE HONEST: PRESS THUMBS UP IF YOU WANT MYRON TO RUN FOR OFFICE. PRESS THUMBS DOWN IF YOU DON’T. I WILL BE PRESSING THUMBS UP.
You want to send up VIP blood pressure today? I voting yes. They will spend the whole day pressing dislike because they what is happening.
THERE’S A 99.9% CHANCE THAT I DON’T CARE HOW VIP AND THIER SUPPORTERS REACT TO MY SURVEY. ATTENTION VIP, THOU SHALL NOT TRY ME. MOOD 24:7.
Lovly to see you rising your head, saying the ministry and Dept. that you had for 8 years needs fixing. After adding a extra year in high school, Starting your own pet project (VISTS) and not providing equipment/tools and needed materials. Adding extra subjects but taking needed times for core subjects and technical subjects. Also wasteing millons on a wall.
I cool with that…
The education system grew by leaps and bounds under the NDP with Myron as the minister of education. I was far better than he found it and even further better than it was now. The system is awful with a minister who has no clue. Shut your untruthful mouth. You have to be a VIP cow bird talking stupidness and what is worst you cannot even spell. Go siddung! This lying approach will not work on us this time.
That’s expected when ever anyone states the truth and facts as there are, the personal attacts will come. The facts are the facts. Its nothing about VIP or NDP its just that his track records is his, Did he not add a extra year, did he not spend over 1 million on a wall, Was he not the driving force behind VISTS, was he not the driving force behind two buildings at ESHS Campus that were demolish and everyone blame the hurricane when the buildind materials were not suited for this region but no one wants to talk about that.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Stop embarrassing yourself
They did grow indeed…in the wrong direction.
AF was like a bull in a china shop. Then came MW
and crushed the pieces that were left. Now we have SW trying to put it together on past educators’ backs.
We are definitely a set of short-memory ignoramuses!
Mr Walwyn. Time to get moving. Assemble your group TODAY. No time to waste. Education is in shambles. shortage of teachers, no more face to face classes for High School, no innovations nothing since this govt went in but lining their pockets with perks. You were the hardest working minister in there. Give jack his jacket. I remember how you got things going after Irma even when we thought we would never get started. Since Covid, I tired call your name cause I know we would NOT have been in this state. You pushed for education even as some people were pushing back until they saw the bigger picture. You had a vision! You pushed your agenda and now we gone to the dogs. I here crying cause this govt only care about themselves. We see that everytime they open their mouth in HOA. Nothing to move this country forward. Please Sir, we need a hero to save us!
I miss your leadership and determination minster Walwyn. I hope that you will contest the next elections. I will vote for you again
Mr Walwyn, please go sit down with your unseen noise. I can’t believe this news site following your facebook page. Are you paying them …?
You were the problem and that is why you are where you are. You were a problem form the get go with the Government and also NDP.
Myron, you cause my NDP to broke up and for that I am not interested in hearing anyting from you. Greed for power is a sorrowful thing.
Let new blood handle the affairs of the country. Everything will fall into place. Rome was not build in a day buy YOU destroy a party in a couple of weeks.
Myron was the cause for the NDP to mash up? You live in another world or you just another person who talk fibs daily. From what I know, the NDP had an election for leader and Myron and Marlon won. Ronnie and Mitch lose and went to form their own party. How that does translate into Myron breaking up the party? You mean that we can tell the truth with nothing in the BVI? Are we that far gone?
Myron you continue to give your views as you see them. Don’t study these people who talk crap.
You never miss the water until the well run dry..Mr. Myron Walwyn, the BVI needs you, education needs you
Here we go as expected. Fahie out the territory. Let’s get the acting premier. One telling lie about Private insurance the next one on the education minister case. Annnnd they strike. You see this thing name politics mmmmm. The nature of these cl**ns.
Myron gone who will be there on the ballot to vote for. Sir please reenter stage right.
the wall the wall the wall bouy go from here
Your Christian name is Jack. I bet I know your surname. It has three letters and begin with an A – A$$
Former Minister Walwyn thanks for your voice on this. People in the BVI do not know when to put politics on the side in the interest of their country. The BVI education system is in shambles. It is. Regardless of which party you support it is a complete and utter disaster and the government of the day should be held responsible and accountable for our children’s education. How could some of you come on and play politics when the future of your country is threatened by what is happening? Do BVI people know what it means to put country first? Do BVI people know how to put country before party? Do BVI people know how to show love for their country? What the former minister is saying is the truth. Instead of trying to drag him down or prop up your badly performing political party, speak to the government representatives about improving the quality of education for our children. Put down your selfishness for once and think about your country. This country has some of the most selfish people I have ever met and I have lived in many countries around the world. You cannot just love a country for what you can get. Some of you don’t even care about your own family members once you get what you want. It is time to change that outlook. Support what is good and right for your home regardless of who is in the government. The former minister spoke out about because he cares. Each of you should do the same and bring about change.
The VIP is dead afraid of Myron. Whenever you call his name the whole set of them get belly ache, headache, corona, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol…ha ha. They know they cant come round him with no foolishness. he is the biggest election threat for them and they know it. I hear Carvin fighting Luce to run in district 4. He smell licks!
I heard also the current Rep for the 4th pushing Hon Malone but we got news for him .We don’t want Carvin trust me but the current rep dont surprise me he is a business man before a politician. He can’t persuade us this time around.
this young man needs to sit down: 2017 was the hurricane and elections were 2019 he was responsible for education all then and did nothing
Boss you don’t know what you talking about. Stop lying. The NDP government negotiated the re-build of all the new schools we have after the hurricane – Enis Adams Primary School, Robinson O’Neal, Ivan Dawson, BFEC secondary school. It’s was the NDP that did all that work not the VIP. They did the lion share of the work on the ESHS building – the now government taking credit for work they did not do. The NDP government did repairs to all schools that were not completely destroyed. Our children were back in school by October after the hurricane. The BVI was top in the OECS for CXC for the second year in a row after the hurricane. The situation in all the schools were not perfect and could not be perfect in such a short time but our children were school and they were learning. Every step of the way parents were informed of what was happening. I was tired hearing Myron voice updating the public on what was happening. We need to stop being so untruthful in the BVI. We don’t see how lying is destroying the place?
If I could love this comment 1000 times… they need to stop the lying and give Myron credit for what he did for education
And they went in and try to take credit for what MYRON DID. BUT IT BACK FIRED ON THEM. SAY WHAT YOU WANT,MYRON WAS GOOD AT RUNNING THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT. CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, DID THEY NOT STOP THE PROGRAM IN FLORIDA?
All those schools were rebuilt by donations given to Gov’t this minister did nothing by try to look good this is facts so tell he go sit down
Enid Scatliffe School was also rebuilt
I said the same thing to myself but then I remembered it was only around late summer/ early fall of 2018 that we began to regain some sense of normalcy here. So he did not necessarily have an adequate amount of time to get much done.
Press dislike all you want. We want back Myron. he did a good job in the education department.
We voted vip still
Myron is only stating what all of us know is the truth. Things real bad with everything in the country but education is really the worst. The Minister is not up to the task. He can’t do the job. He is good at criticizing but don’t give him nothing to do. He can’t manage his own responsibilities and now we have him acting as Premier. The BVI is not a real place.
You take home what you buy.
Having the requisite tools and will to serve the national and peoples’ interest was not why they ran for office.
They/he said they are going in to take care of themselves, as others before them did the same thi, and they are doing just that. Aren’t they?
So no surprise as to how there leadershi relative to people, nation and money has turned out so far. It is a great tregedy!
What would be a greater tregedy is the if thereis political intellectual growth and relection of this team back into power and authority.
Reading these blogs really tell me that we are doomed as a people. We lack the ability to stay on point and deal with issues. We have completely left the topic on education and have ventured into unproductive areas. This is exactly what the politicians do to us during election time and we fall for it every time. The issue is the deplorable state of the education system that is affecting our children. How many blogs really contributed to the topic? They went off into all kinds of irrelevant topics like the sheep we are. It’s completely ridiculous. We are DOOMED! The VIP with silver tongue Andrew will fool is again with all his untruthful stories and his fake love for God when election come. Then after election we will complain again. DOOMED!
Yall wanted Walwyn out because of his last name, then yall get someone with a tolian last name and now he aint doing the job so ayo want back Walwyn because he did the job better. SMH make up ayo mind.
The fact that the Health Minister and Minister of Education have so much time to be on whatsapp arguing and on the radio airwaves answering everybody that says anything they do not like, tells you why their ministries are crumbling. Our poor young people are suffering greatly under this mafia Government and the sad part is that they actually believe they are doing a good job.
Can someone please start giving out some figures? How many classrooms need furnishing? What do they need? What is the estimated cost for each room? Then we can get some of the private sector involved in furnishing the school…. Believe me, if this information went out it would get done…and it would be done by September. Lets source the furniture ourselves if the government refuse to channel their funds into the right places. It isn’t ideal – but our children need us to act and the government obviously won’t.
Why we so bad minded in this place. Give jack his jacket. Myron worked hard for the people of the BVI. Myron was a very good minister.and very good representative. He was one of the best we ever had. If NDP had lose but he remained I wouldn’t feel too bad. Education was moving in the right direction. Some major improvements happened under his time there. Things that should have been done years ago. Nobody will want to come and put themselves forward to work for the country because we lie too much, we full of jealousy and envy and we bad minded. So we will end up only getting these square pegs that can’t fit no hole and can’t do nothing. Look at the muck we created. Everyday is another lie from a politician. Now all of them calling one another lie while we suffering. We should be shame
i cannot say that I am a fan of Myron Walwyn, but I will say that almost everybody can see the difference between education under Walwyn’s stewrdship and education under the current stewardship of Dr. Wheatley. many may not have admired Walwyn’s approach, but the results were showing. Education is in urgent need of repairs. urgent I say!
Is none give a f*k about the youth there all concern about thete pocket ….just a game to play for them …poly tricks
This time run a clean CAMPAIGN, THEY ARE GOING TO SLING THE MUD BUT WE ARE ALREADY HIP TO THE GAMES WE KNOW WHAT’S UP. EXAMPLE, DONALD TRUMP SLING SOME DIRTY MUD AT JOE BIDEN AND CALLED HIM OLD AND SLOW JOE. OLD AND SLOW JOE RAN A CLEAN CAMPAIGN AND BEAT TRUMP AT HIS OWN GAME.
The NDP ran a clean campaign and has always done so. It’s the VIP that’s does the mudslinging, lies and gossip and then there is V***. The owner got rewarded as s*****r. But the people also like too much gossip and melee so those things cloud their judgment over competence and so we end up with people like the ones we have now in the government. It is the people who have to demand better from those aspiring to seek elected office. The people should be the standard bearers.
For the life of me I always wondered ….. for a country that only have Three public High School the state and condition of the schools especially the BVI High School from way back when the only things changed is the name nothing else. Garbage, Old buildings, string all over like an eye soar. All these should be top class and state of the heart and the school grounds should have nice landscaping and immaculate and this would help students to have more pride in their environment and there should be a gardener to keep the grounds in top shape at all times Now to the Education System : It needs Upgrading and updating otherwise we going to be left behind the Caribbean and the World we should up our education system to the times and we are way behind and this new Munster is not a leader at least that what his actions shows .We need leader with modern approach and systems in place to move education forward.
Mr Walwyn, the peoples of the VI do not deserve you nor your leadership.
Let them take what they deserve.
The CoI will be the icing on their cake.
THE holy Cline will have them touch the hem of his garment and save the soul of the VI.
He is the best education minister the bvi ever have in 33 yrs and that have substantially proven
Paying your circle of bloggers will not get you re elected.
Your actions speaks for itself when you sabotage your own party.
This is not the USA. Hunger for power?? You have to come as a team. This is not a one man show mr show boy.
@bloomberg – I did not get paid for my post so tell me how to get my money please. I am not a farmer or fisherman but I could still get something. This here is the problem with the BVI, it kills them to recognize when their own is good at something. You then run around and blame white folks for your problems. You are your own problem.
Myron was the best education minister we had including myself. I heard her say that with my own mouth. Continue to speak and give your views Myron.
