Vehicle fire at gas station prompts advisory from Fire Chief

Motorists are being advised not to bring a burning car to a gas station; this after fire officers were swiftly mobilised to extinguish a vehicle fire at the Delta Petroleum Gas Station in Pasea Estate on Tuesday, August 27.

According to Chief Fire Officer Zebalon McLean, a female motorist noticed flames emanating from her vehicle while driving in the area and headed directly to the gas station seeking help.

Upon her arrival, gas station employees quickly turned off the main fuel supply to prevent further hazards and attempted to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher. The Fire Department responded shortly after, lifting the hood of the car to fully extinguish the fire.

Chief McLean explained that the fire wasn’t immediately extinguished because the employees were unable to get close enough to open the car’s hood, where the fire had started. Although there were no injuries reported, a few individuals suffered from smoke inhalation.

Don’t bring a burning car to a gas station

While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, Chief McLean advised the public never to bring a burning vehicle to a gas station. He outlined steps to take in such situations, emphasizing the importance of stopping the vehicle wherever it is, securing it by pulling up the handbrake and putting it in park, and then exiting the vehicle immediately.

Chief McLean also stressed the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, recommending that vehicles be serviced at least every three months to prevent such incidents. He further suggested that drivers invest in a small fire extinguisher to keep in their vehicles.

In addition to gas stations, McLean advised avoiding other locations with flammable materials, such as paint shops, in the event of a vehicle fire.

Must be a VI thing. It feels like this Government is going down in flames and the most likely decision they would mwake is to head for a gas station to make sure they take us all down with it.

To the lady Im not trying to insult or ridicule you but why would you carry a burning vehicle to the gas station? Now instead of only potentially harming yourself you decided to potentially put many more lives at risk. In movies you see people deciding to sacrifice themselves by driving into the sea, going over bridges etc. instead of going to heavily populated areas to reduce death to innocent lives but you choose the opposite. What she did was the equivalent of using gas to extinguish a fire.

  7. As a woman says:

Woman, you made all of the female drivers look like fools. They all ready say women don’t know how to drive. Panic or not, you never drive a burning car into a gas station maybe she was trying to take herself out with a few others. The s does not make any sense.

    • lol says:

the gas stations also has GAS! LOL.

Biggest danger on the road is people with zero situational awareness. Thank God it was resolved without incident

PERHAPS SHE IS A TERRORIST…CHECK HER OUT

  14. Kudos says:

Kudos to the fast action of the staff and the Fire Department for ensuring that the fire was extinguished. That could have been disastrous for many people including herself, had the station caught fire and blown the top. Obviously, she panicked, was seeking help, and was oblivious to what she was doing. She can now reflect. It is an awareness lesson for us all. These are the types of did you know infomercials that the community needs to be educated about regularly. But safety measures of any kind are not the norm of the day

People can’t be arrested for stupidity.
Imagine the damage to life and our infrastructure were it not for the quick thinking gas station employees. That woman placed a lot of people in danger.

  16. Citizen says:

They refill propane there, that could have been truly horrible.
    What an idiot.

  17. SMART says:

I LIKE HER, IF SHE HAD STOP ON ROAD SHE WOULD HAVE MESS UP THE DAMM TRAFFIC

  18. Yes says:

Give the gas station employees their kudos for putting themselves at risk for jumping to action when they realize what was about to happen. The employees deserve a raise or a nice bonus. Just imagine what would have happened if the burning vehicle had made contact with the pump. Please put this person picture up so the public can see who the gas station lighting bug is. Now we have to pay attention and on the look out when we are putting gas in our vehicles at the gas station.

  19. I agree says:

Give those gas station employees a raise or a bonus. So where is the loon? Still driving around or under Psycho watch.

  20. Ar Sah says:

When I initially heard about the fire, I thought the fire had started while the vehicle was at the gas station. Never in my wildest dream, I would have thought someone drove it there while it was on fire.

  21. Now says:

    That’s a terrorist attack!

  22. @ QUICK THINKING LADY ? says:

you really need to have your head checked out, the lady didn’t have to go where the pump is , / she could of pull off on yhe side of the road and whether bout of the vehicle , a vehicle can be replaced , can you replace a life ? ? ? ( oth of you would make a good pair

  23. Perhaps says:

She should be charged with endangering the welfare of a child. If my car catch a fire my common sense would tell me to pull the car over to the side grab my child and head to safety. How is anyone in their right mind would drive a car that is on fire into a gas station. I don’t want to hear any excuses, I just want to know who the person is that would do something so dangerous and reckless.

  24. On the down low talk says:

Some is saying the woman that drove her burning vehicle have some type of gripe with the………. and wanted to destroy the business. If that is the case don’t endanger the lives of others. But of course nothing is going to come of it and she is free to continue to drive again

  25. Safety first. says:

This fits right alongside the government advisory during covid “hands, face, space, and don’t touch the strippers.” Another brilliant government health warning.
