VIDEO: Residents, scooter riders challenge cops

Police officers carrying out their duty in a section of Tortola last night faced strong resistance from a group of civilians including motorcyclists.

“Ayo can’t take no bike from nobody,” one scooter rider dared the police, who persons on the scene accused of acting inappropriately.

The physical and verbal exchanges were captured on video, which is being circulated on social media.

It is said that the incident transpired in the Long Bush area.

When contacted, Information Officer at the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Diane Drayton said one person was taken into custody.

“One man was arrested on suspicion of driving a motorcycle above the prescribed limit. No charge has been laid,” Drayton said.

Among the persons spotted in the video is government lawmaker Marlon Penn. He was seen trying to quell the tension.
