Virgin Gorda airport reopens after heavy rains disrupt operations
The Taddy Bay International Airport on Virgin Gorda has reopened after a one-day closure for runway repairs.
On Friday, November 1, the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) announced the temporary closure for all-wing operations due to heavy rainfall.
The closure followed a statement from Minister of Communication and Works Kye Rymer, who reported that the territory experienced just over two inches of rain, causing saturated high grounds and an increased risk of landslides. The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) also advised that a weather watch remains in effect due to lingering moisture.
The BVIAA issued a follow-up statement on November 2 confirming that the airport has resumed full operations.
It remains unclear how the sudden closure affected travellers and flights to the territory. Passengers with confirmed travel plans are advised to contact their airlines for updates.
The public is urged to remain cautious, as warming weather conditions could heighten risks in affected areas.
