Walwyn introduces employment task force in D6

Sixth District Representative, Myron Walwyn

Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn has established an employment task force to help address the unemployment issue in his district.

Twelve business and human resources management professionals came together to form the task force which is chaired by Toyer Fahie.

The group is expected to work along with unemployed residents of the district to provide them with employment opportunities, and where necessary, skills-building and training to make them more employable.

Walwyn said he was pleased to provide the opportunity for residents of the district to help alleviate the unemployment issue.

“This unemployment issue continues to affect many of the residents of District 6, particularly the young people. An employment register has been developed where persons who are seeking employment can register,” Walwyn noted.

He further explained that the process is simple and easy and said residents wishing to participate in the initiative are asked to visit www.abetterdistrict6.com. They can then select the unemployment register tab, then complete and submit the form.

According to the District Representative, the committee will be working very closely with the business community in District 6 and the wider business community.

He said Labour Commissioner, Michelle McLean, has also been informed of the initiative and has given her full support to working along with the task force.

“I thank the members of the task force for offering their time and talent to help those in the district who are seeking employment. This is the quintessential example of good citizenry and giving back to the very community that has done so much for many persons,” Walwyn added.

Persons can also contact the District 6 Office at 284-540-0802 to seek assistance with becoming registered and to explore subsequent employment opportunities.

That is leadership Hon Walwyn. Be in the forefront, show number 7 and 8 what leadership is all about. Welcome back our future premier. If only we had persons in office with your innovation. I am expecting Dr Dawson to follow in your footsteps and do well for his constituency. So 1&6 covered. Is there any hope for 7&8. We know there is no brain in 9.

Thank God for another day. After reading this article this morning, gives me a renewed vigor and appreciation knowing that there is Hope. I am not in District 6 but what intrigued me is Hey, Here is a Politician who really cares about people and would endeavour to ensure that once motivated, he is there and willing to help. Unlike some Politicians who are only in it for themselves, waiting for people to ask for hand outs and victimize them in the process just because they think they didnt support them at Elections. Myron should give Training to the Members of HOA on how a Country propers. Not just by hand outs but there are some people who are trying to survive but just need that little encouragement. Any Country where its Citizens are motivated and happy and thriving is a prosperous Country. Not keeping people downtrodden, victimized and feeling less than. Some Politicians in this little Territory are EVIL. They only care about themselves and them Cronies. Teach a Person to Fish and they won’t have to forever come to you for a hand out. Stop using your time in office perusing documents showing what Citizens have and thinking that they have enough and Yes, that is what some Politicians do. Always remember, not because you were elected to Office, the finances of this Territory derive from its Citizens, Businesses and the like NOT from your Pockets. Politicians, DO BETTER FOR YOUR PEOPLE. Your actions is what makes the BVI a Third World Nation. No Innovation. No Empathy. No Forward Thinking. Just Greed. Selfishness. Victimization. Envy. Jealousy and the list could go on.

I cannot understand how people here are without jobs when there are new permits being issued. I cannot understand this. Please look into this. All BVI local persons who WANTS to work should be in a job right now. If you don’t have your dream job just do something until. Look one mart open new locations I’m sure they were hiring just take those jobs until you get you dream job. A few charters companies were hiring wash or clean some boats until you get your dream job.

Your statement is exactly the reason why the BVI will not get better. What sort of sick and demented person would write something as unkind and hurtful like this where they are wishing the worst for another citizen of the country? You people are not normal people. Your wickedness and your evilness will continue to curse this land unless you change. I am sickened by this statement. Here is someone who is trying to do good for the community and someone else could write this post saying something so evil and unkind. I swear this whole island need therapy. People crazy.

It could only be one piggy wiggly person who could write something this disgusting. God is with Walwyn so whatever you wish or do he will be fine. Even in the midst of his tribulation God saw it fit to have him elected once again by a landslide. You made a headline saying he was the first former minister to be arrested. Make another one to say that he was first charged politician to be re-elected by a landslide. Walwyn will prevail over these silly charges and will go on from strength to strength in Jesus name.

He trying, good thing, but isn’t there a register in the Labour Dept for the unemployed to register their information to get a job when there is a job available to match their CV or resume? Yes indeed, there is one and it works.

I have had calls from that unit in the past and I know others who are employed now, because they were matched and called by labor Dept.

I understand what the representative is doing but for God sake we should not reinvent the wheel. Let these unemployed make use of what is already available. Lets wait and see what happens. Unless these folks think Road Town is too far to get to the register with Labour Dept, then unless they get job only in Dist 6, then they will have the same problem going to work in Road Town. Best wishes and success to All.

Now imagine if the other 8 Districts had anything close to this over the past 10 years how much better off things would be. The other District Reps are a waste and I’m particularly disappointed in the Rep for District 2 as this person was always involved with good programs for the youth but after election that all went down the drain.

  14. @Na comprehend says:

Because the locals do not want to do certain jobs. it’s that simple. They are too entitled and want big positions and titles without doing the work.

I am sure that Hon. Walwyn said that he will be working with the Labour department as well. The more hands that could be applied to this problem the quicker it could be solved. Walwyn has every right to go out of his way to help his district people find work. I wish he was my representative. I do not see your point whoever you are. It is almost like a back handed compliment. Snake!

God please continue to Bless the BLESS BVI.
Many residents of the 6th are persons that migrate years ago from other jurisdictions, that relies on the BVI for jobs and still turn around and call down the place. Labour Dept. have to work the tails off to seek jobs when there are not that many to go around at this time. The Government need to only renew permits where neccessary.

  30. VI Gyal says:

What do they have to put him there? Why you all so against him. Others have done worst and has not even been charged. I am sure you ate from something he did for you or your family. These past 2 elections it has always been shade thrown at him so him being arrested and charged was no surprise. WHen you have it bad for someone you do anything to bring them down, especially in our black caribbean culture.

Right now he is doing something good and has always tried too, give him some praise, but that too hard for you.

  31. badmindedness says:

It is only when you are good and successful persons use all their energy to try to bring you down. It is well with Hon. Myron Walwyn and he will be the next Premiere of this country like it or not God will raise him up to be just that.

  33. Badminded says:

You sound so hateful go read your Bible

  34. Think says:

The reason the permits will forever continue to be issued is because, the jobs available, the BVIslanders dont want to do them so the employers have to outsource. Then there are the employers (BVIslanders) who refuse to hire locals for more reason than one. So, it goes both ways, dont just blame the expats for wanting to better themselves and families.

  35. Amazing says:

A total waste of time, why do we need to have an unemployment register in each district let these people go and register with the appropriate Government departments. This is clearly an early campaign tactics.
