We are better now – OMG launching festival album
The local band known as Our Music Group (OMG), which will perform at the upcoming emancipation festivities, is launching its first album, and is upbeat about its improved chances of becoming Road March champion this time round.
The album titled ‘Made In The Virgin Islands An Suh’ will officially be launched tomorrow (July 28) in the parking lot of CCT’s flagship store, Road Town.
“For our first album launch, we wanted to do an open event where everyone is welcomed to attend, because the main goal is people listening and dancing to our music,” said lead vocalist Dante Wattley.
The album, which will be issued via USB drives, features groovy and up-tempo Soca music, OMG said in a media release this afternoon.
“As we move with the times, CDs are a bit played out. So I thought of using a flash drive for the album. The other members were able to see my vision, so we made it a reality,”said band member Jevaughn Parsons.
Meanwhile, the album launch tomorrow will feature performances by B’More, DJ Bertrum, Drastic, and the 2Xotic Troupe Dancers. Caribbean Cellars will provide drink samples, and there will be a special registration for the Crazy Threadz Jouvert Troupe.
Festival fever
In addition to being booked to perform at different villages during the Emancipation Festival, OMG will participate in the August Monday Jouvert, where it will be in the ‘number-one band position’ along with the Crazy Threadz Jouvert Troupe.
“The band has gelled nicely over the years, and I think that we are in a good space right now. Our chemistry shines through to our audience when we perform, and creates an atmosphere of fun energy. People see us having fun. So, in turn, they have fun,” said band leader Ricky Connor.
He added, “With the introduction of our Manager Jehree D Clarke, the musicians are able to focus on the music while she takes care of the business side.”
The three-year-old band, which is an ambassador for telecommunications group CCT, is also a Road March contender. It has submitted four songs – Roll Call, Ben-Dover, Style, and Ladies Anthem.
