West End man fined $2,500 for cannabis
A West End man was fined $2,500 this week after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled drug and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply to another.
Magistrate Jack Husbands ordered Corey Butler to pay the sum before September 30 or spend one month at Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut.
The court heard that about 8:10 pm on August 5 last year, Butler along with his girlfriend Rosella Ottley were travelling in a vehicle in the vicinity of Sage Mountain on Tortola.
Police officers who were conducting stop-and-search operations in the area and ordered them to pull over their vehicle.
During a subsequent search of the duo, police uncovered a quantity of cannabis in the right rear pants pocket of Butler who was the driver.
“Officer, that’s my smoke stash,” Butler reportedly told the police.
A small weighing scale, a quantity of dime bags, and $3,714 cash belonging to Butler was allegedly found in the vehicle.
Ottley was also searched, and more cannabis was found on her person.
“It’s not mine,” she reportedly told law enforcers when questioned.
Ottley reportedly told police in a subsequent interview that Butler gave her the drugs to keep in her purse.
Ottley who had previously pleaded guilty to possession of 14 grams of cannabis was fined.
