Work permit exemptions expanded for some providers

The government has announced a policy streamlining work permit requirements for specific categories of short-term service providers.

This initiative builds on previous efforts to create a more attractive business environment. The changes, outlined in the Labour Code (Work Permit Exemption) (Amendment) Order, 2024, aim to benefit three key areas. Firstly, experts in disaster response, medical assistance, and fire services can now offer crucial support without work permit delays.

This is particularly significant considering the BVI’s vulnerability to hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Secondly, businesses can bring in specialists for critical machinery or equipment repairs, ensuring smooth operations and minimising downtime. This can be especially crucial for industries like tourism and finance, which rely heavily on functioning infrastructure.

Finally, personnel involved in entertainment or recreational activities at government-sponsored events or those organised by non-profit groups are now exempt from work permit requirements. This can help attract a wider range of events and performers, potentially increasing tourism revenue and boosting the territory’s cultural offerings.

Deputy Premier and Labour Minister, Lorna Smith, said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to creating a streamlined and efficient business environment while prioritising the well-being of the community.

Smith added: “It eliminates the need for processing work permit applications or waivers in these specific cases, saving both businesses and the government valuable time and resources. This in turn enhances the delivery of essential services and contributes to economic development.”

These exemptions, which are valid for seven days with the possibility of extension, aim to strike a balance between access to necessary services and local employment protection. Businesses must notify immigration 48 hours in advance (or before departure in emergencies) and provide a letter of invitation.

And in the end they give you something in you food that just destroy your organs inside until you die from natural causes, they end up with your property. All down in Antigua the foreign woman them killing the man leave them property, you know what’s it’s like to have your tolian woman love you? It’s the greatest achievement, how can you feel good for a fly by night from Guyana or santa domingo or Jamaica appear from now where in life and you just become their economic saviour and believe it’s love, but when you own love you it’s great, you mention the poor tolian woman sleep in the same dress she work in, just have compassion because she work so hard she fell asleep in her cloth, the island woman don’t have to work to build the BVI, she is there to take from the BVI, do she walk around naked. One thing I know if a BVI woman love you, that mean you are a winner not a loser.
