Write To Read marches into summer programme
PRESS RELEASE – With school about to break for the summer, Write To Read will be hosting the March Into Greatness Summer Program, which focuses on developing academic skills as well as the development of values and life skills in a fun learning environment.
Program coordinator, Sharie de Castro, expressed that the aim of the camp is to encourage forward motion in a positive direction to motivate the next generation.
de Castro further stated, “While the current upsurge of unfortunate and undesirable activities in our communities is heartbreaking, now more than ever we need to proactively implement initiatives to ensure that our children are safe, engaged, supported and challenged throughout the summer. Thus, the March Into Greatness Summer Program has been tailored specifically to address this.”
In the summer school is out but learning is in.
Participants of the summer program will engage in Reading and Writing, Math and Critical Thinking, Virgin Islands History, Life Skills, Art and Craft, Recreational Games, Field Trips and Community Service.
The program begins on July 3rd and ends on July 28th, from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
de Castro explained, “Focus areas were chosen to help children to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate successfully in an ever-changing society. This summer program will provide an environment for children to be active, to develop competence in life skills, to learn about and enhance their own abilities and to benefit from academic teaching that relies more heavily on interactive, hands-on, enrichment activities.”
Key components to the program include:
Reading Intervention: Improve reading by building phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension skills.
Academic Bootcamp: Keep kids intellectually active by strengthening their reading, writing, math and critical thinking skills.
Fun Games and Drills: Engage learning through play with board games, competitions and challenges.
Motivational Drives: Build confidence, character, intellect, problem solving, conflict resolution and other life skills.

Field Trips: Bowling, Mini-Golf, VI History Road Trip and much more.
