Young poets shine in Rotary Peace & Conflict Resolution Competition
Students from primary and secondary schools across Tortola showcased their talent and insight as winners of the Rotary Club of Central Tortola’s Peace and Conflict Resolution Poetry Competition were announced.
Held in observance of Rotary International’s Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month in February, the competition aimed to give young voices a platform to express their perspectives on peace, conflict, and resolution. It also encouraged students to think critically about the roots and consequences of conflict, while developing creative writing skills, confidence, and empathy.
The competition was open to all primary and secondary school students.
In the Secondary Division, Branella Joseph claimed first place with her poem “Our Bridge of Understanding.” Akeelah Bryan took second with “The Price of Peace,” and Ariel Browne placed third with “The Bridge of Peace.”
In the Primary Division, Mya Mohamed won first place with “Peace and Conflict.” Dominique Ashley earned second place for “My Dream,” and Kiara Kariasih secured third with “The Battle of Peace and Conflict.”
The Rotary Club congratulated all participants and emphasized the importance of youth engagement in building a more peaceful future.
