Digicel increase network capacity with upgrade of new LTE sites

PRESS RELEASE: Digicel, total communications and entertainment provider, is cementing its position as the go-to place for all things data by increasing the network capacity on a number of its newly built LTE sites in the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

The increase in capacity marks a new phase in Digicel BVI’s network optimisation plan as engineers boost sites to take full advantage of the newly built LTE network.

The enhanced sites will have double the network capacity, increasing bandwidth and coverage, to ensure that customers are getting the best possible network experience. To date, newly optimised areas include Road Town, Huntum’s Ghut, Pasea Estate, Purcell Estate, Free Bottom, Long Bush, Baughers Bay, Nanny Cay and Towers.

Over the next three weeks, Digicel engineers will complete optimisation at the following locations: Lambert, East End, Hodges Creek, Paraquita Bay, Sophie Bay, Airport, Cane Garden Bay, Prospect Reef, Sage Mountain, Todman Peak, Luck Hill, Little Bay (JVD), Spanish Town (VG), and Little Dix Bay (VG).

Kevin Gordon, Digicel BVI CEO, in commenting on the network enhancements said, “We simply want to give our customers the best mobile experience we can.

We have successfully completed the rebuild of a newer, smarter and more robust LTE network and are now focused on boosting the efficiency of each site to deliver faster data transfer speeds and improved performance.

The network optimisation will double the bandwidth available on each site and coincides with a substantial increase in the volume of data used throughout the Territory.

He added: “The optimisation of our newly built LTE network is crucial, as our customers rely on Digicel as their number one provider for all their communication and entertainment needs.

The BVI is fully embracing the future of streaming entertainment including Netflix, Fire TV Stick and Amazon Prime and our network will support this.”

Digicel’s network enhancements are expected to be completed by the end of September 2018, after which customers can expect to experience improvements in data speeds and coverage.

This will also coincide with some exciting new plans for customers. “We would like to express our thanks to our customers for their patience and understanding as we have carried out the optimisation work.

We are confident that our newly built and optimised network will more than satisfy their communications and entertainment needs”, finished Gordon. For the latest news on Digicel’s network restoration progress, follow Digicel BVI on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
