Premier Dr D Orlando has paid tribute to Captain Neville Brathwaite Sr – the owner of VI Airlink who passed away recently.
He described the late citizen of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) as a good man, an amazing pilot, and an ambassador who helped to build the territory’s tourism brand by providing airlift services for visitors and business travellers.
Here is the premier’s full tribute:
I join the territory and indeed the Caribbean in reflecting on the life of Captain Neville Brathwaite Sr and remembering his contributions to the development of the aviation sector of the territory.
Captain Brathwaite was a good man and an amazing pilot who had a keen interest in the British Virgin Islands.
In this regard, his airline, VI Airlink, was one of our earliest medical airlifts that transported patients and our medical teams overseas to Puerto Rico, the USVI (US Virgin Islands) and beyond.
I also consider him as one of our tourism ambassadors who helped to build our tourism brand by providing airlift services for our visitors and business travellers to and from the BVI, and of course providing an easy and reliable air service for all of us to travel between Tortola and Anegada for business, community service, or leisure.
I am pleased to see that his sons – Neville Brathwaite Jr and Norville Braithwaite – have followed in his stead, and are carrying on his aviation legacy.
I extend my sincerest condolences to his wife Mrs Brathwaite, and his children, and their entire family both in the BVI and abroad. I pray that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, remain with you during this time.
May his soul sleep in eternal peace.
