Photos: Shameful!

Members of the community have expressed dissatisfaction with what they consider to be the lukewarm response of the government regarding the cleansing of water directly around one of the territory’s main ports of entry – the Road Town Jetty.

They said almost daily cleansing is required especially now that Sargassum seaweed is again washing up in the area.

According to residents, the seaweed, which is unsightly and sends off a noxious odour, is being allowed to decay – making the situation worse. The photos published here were captured a few days ago.

Is there any correlation between the amount of trash that we throw out of our car windows and dump around the Islands, and the amount of trash that washes around on the shore.
If so, I think we should be told.

No evidence that i know about.
Let’s keep on throwing our trash wherever we like, but don’t put it in the sea!

You all are kidding right?? Obviously garbage thrown on road sides and in ghuts wash into the sea when it rains. It’s sickening and something needs to be done.

It’s a bigger problem than Seaweed if you ask me. Seaweed smells bad but it’s a natural product of the environment. Garbage is not.

Lets ask this, Did the government make this happen? No. DId this happen Because of the failure of the Government? No.

Then Why is it the responsibility of the government to clean it up? Look at all the trash, did the PEOPLE or the government throw that in there? How about a little personal responsibility for things?

You want it cleaned up, get a team of volunteers and clean it up! Quit your bitchen….

Whether we like it or not, there will always be litter (not saying i condone it).

But that is exactly why Government collect our tax – to show a little decency and clean up the damn port.

Otherwise, close down Waste Management and send home all the damn workers.

Government has a responsibility. If all of us are responsible, then no one is responsible.

Right! Dont gorget that government should also have stiff fines for those who litter, just like in Singapore. Cameras should be installed to catch those who commit major and minor crimes.

I mean how far do you think the tax dollars can go? To me you inviting more taxes because of statements like this and when new taxes are introduced, people like you are the first one crying about the amount of taxes you have to pay. news flash! Your taxes don’t cover this expense but it can… don’t worry.

What about those responsible caring? Government should make an example out of those responsible.

Government is not responsible for going around cleaning up after nasty propld, but they need to enforce laws and make people remorseful.

Maybe the government (who should clean it up no matter how it got there), will spend the $10 fee per tourist they are starting to collect on this.

If they want to entice tourist, it must be done. This is the ferry terminal!!

These pictures are for all those people that think their trash magically disappears when they throw it in the ghut or on side of the road.

It ends up right in the sea after a heavy shower and then you come on the comments to complain about the gov’t not doing anything smh

“These pictures are for all those people that think their trash magically disappears when they throw it in the ghut or on side of the road,” and from their yachts and pleasure boats into our waters.

No one likes the word tax or the effects of such, but a careful study and subsequent collection fee added into the yachting and pleasure boating industry specifically for to infuse funds to help rectify the problem that they are also a major cause of.

Government are there to manage our environment and ensure our laws are enforced (not just pass them).
There are anti-litter laws so enforce them and FINE the offenders.
Oops……they might not vote us back in the next election so ignore the source of the problem.
    Shame, Shame, Shame leaders !!!!!!!!!!!

Tortola looking bad of late. Rains have made it worse, but, just so much trash, lots of dumping on sites all around the island. We need to have more pride in our island.

Piles of construction rubble, old cars, delapitated buildings, garbage of every type, raw sewage on the land and in the sea. Government is elected to lead us and the civil service is employed to carry out the will of the people.

Making a piece of sidewalk to beautify Road Town and painting some curb is not enough, but just a little money going into some pocket, but no one wants the hard job.

How about a new department in solid waste to work on trash removal(and good funding to back them up), how about some new laws the penalize people who trash up our country. And when you are at it some laws to stop import of straws, styrofoam plastic cup water bottle and such ting.

How about some education for the youts. How about we invest in our selves instead of these dam stupid tings.

How about our elected officials start actually caring for the country instead of their own personal enrichment. Okay now I am mad!

If the government cant clear the Great Mountain Road of a few rocks one week after a storm, do you really think you can get them to clean the sea weed everyday? It is every man for himself and God for us all.

not long ago that area was clean and other times before I guess no one sees when it’s being done. Now every year like every other place the sea weeds comes so If some of us will just do the right thing by throwing their garbage in the bin there instead of throwing it in that area will be much better.

Some people just down right nasty
