Six boats destroyed this month – 2 fires, 1 location

A man narrowly escaped an inferno when a boat he occupied – along with two others – were damaged extensively by fire in the vicinity of a dock and Perla’s Bar in Baugher’s Bay, Tortola.

Members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force have started a probe into the blaze that took place a few hours before daybreak today, April 18.

The officers, so far, have visited the fire scene.

Members of the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services were also busy at the location trying to extinguish the blaze.

No one was injured, BVI News Online has confirmed.

A man, who was asleep in one of the vessels at the time time of the blaze, managed to escape. However, he has lost virtually all of his belongings.

One of the vessels burned is a 40ft yacht.

The cause of the fires is yet to be ascertained.

The incident today comes on the heels of another fire that destroyed three boats in the said area of Baughers Bay on April 4. A police investigation is ongoing into that first incident.
