Stop criticizing the premier – clergyman

Bishop Ishmael Charles

Residents of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) are being told to stop badmouthing Premier Dr D Orlando Smith and other persons involved in the recovery process, which comes after Hurricane Irma pounded the territory on September 6.

Bishop Ishmael Charles, who made the call this month, urged persons to instead become more focused on rebuilding the territory.

“We must move away from criticizing the premier. We must stop criticizing people right now and start putting our hands together and work together. Get off the blogs and talking foolishness,” he said while he addressed a ceremony marking one month since Hurricane Irma caused wide-scale destruction and resulted in four reported deaths locally.

The clergyman also joined other persons who have suggested that the category 5 hurricane was a message for residents of the BVI to abandon prideful tendencies.

“Let’s not look down upon anybody,” Bishop Charles advised. “Nobody is bigger than anybody. I think on the following morning after the hurricane, everybody in the BVI was on the same level, and we know that God is saying something to us.”
