100% water supply to return to Sea Cow’s Bay, West before year’s end — W&SD

Residents in Sea Cows Bay and West End could receive a more reliable water supply by the end of 2019.

Director of the Water & Sewerage Department Pearline Scatliffe-Leonard told BVI News last month that this is possible because the hurricane-damaged water plant based at West End is finally being rebuilt.

“They are rebuilding with resiliency in mind so you will find that there are concrete barriers in some of the pipework on the seaside and so forth because of what happened down there,” Scatliffe-Leonard said.

“We are still in the process … so they (the aforesaid communities) are not 100 percent producing. But, before the year is ended, I would say we should see that area 100 percent. And we should see a decrease in complaints from that area with regards to water,” she said.

Scatliffe-Leonard said the issue lies with production for the two areas.

Notably, for years, the Sea Cows Bay community and wider Third District have been only supplied with piped water for a limited number of hours each day.

Some sections of the First District have also been experiencing water shortages, particularly after the 2017 hurricanes impact on the territory’s water network.

I pray this is true. Suffering there is too much. Despite the fact that we don’t get the water they still charge us more. I hope they build it better this time because the pipes in seacow’s are just like balloons, always bursting.

The water pipes in the 3rd district are mostly just under or along side the main roads. These heavy trucks hauling water, concrete, heavy equipment, etc. are driving over the water pipes and breaking them on a regular basis. Perhaps its for a truck weight limit in the 3rd district.
