3-month grace period for residents behind on monthly water payments

Kye Rymer

Residents in the British Virgin Islands with outstanding water bill balances are being offered a three-month grace period on disconnections by the government.

The Water & Sewerage Department made the announcement via a media release stating that the period will run from Monday, January 18 until Friday, April 30.

Speaking on the initiative, Minister for Works & Utilities Kye Rymer said that in light of the continued impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the territory, his government decided to express clemency towards those customers who are unable to make the monthly demands.

The Government of the Virgin Islands is offering a grace period of three months on the disconnections of water service to customers of the Water and Sewerage Department.

Rymer said: “This period is to allow customers the opportunity to settle outstanding balances. Your government understands the challenges that you the residents have experienced as a result of the impact from the COVID-19 pandemic last year. As a result, we decided to add some leniency in the regularly scheduled disconnections.”

He added: “During this period, we are encouraging customers of the Water and Sewerage Department including those with bill discrepancies to make arrangements to bring their accounts current.”

Residents are being asked to contact the Water & Sewerage Department at (284) 468-5834/5901 or email [email protected] for any additional information or concerns they may have about the initiative.

Immigration needs to do same too because a lot of persons are waiting for more than six week for their certificate of earnings and good standing letters from NHI AND SSB and the grace period is up 31st January. Some people are waiting for months and some just apply and are getting theirs. Something is seriously wrong here.

I don’t understand. The bills themselves are three months behind in posting,The last one I paid in January was only up to September.Water and Sewerage is obviously not a revenue generating department. They need to be completely revamped
