The government has issued a contract to dump more than a quarter-million dollars worth of asphalt to service multiple road development projects in the BVI.

The Ministry of Transportation & Works in collaboration with the Recovery & Development Agency (RDA) signed the contract with Tortola Paving Ltd for the sum of $390,857.50.

With this contract, Tortola Paving will supply and install asphalt for slope stabilisation and road rehabilitation project sites at Little Dix Hill, Hope Hill to Sabbath Hill, Bob’s Gas Station, Great Mountain I, (Upper), Great Mountain II (Lower) and Ballast Bay.

A joint media release from the RDA and the Works Ministry said a number of local contractors will be conducting these extensive road works.

“The vision for the road network throughout the Territory is to have first-class roads. Within the Ministry of Transportation, Works and Utilities, we are working to see that come to fruition. We are working in tandem with the RDA and we are proud to have arrived at this phase to completion,” Works Ministers Kye Rymer stated.

Meanwhile, the contract was tendered through the RDA’s National Competitive Bidding process acting on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation & Works.

Funding is provided through the Caribbean Development Bank’s Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Loan to the government.

“Motorists are notified that they may experience road interruptions at respective sites when the paving begins. Persons are asked to stay tuned to media outlets and social media, in particular the Government of the Virgin Islands’ and RDA’s Facebook and Instagram pages and websites for road closure advisories,” the aforesaid media release stated.
