43-year-old arrested for stealing ATM card

BVI News understands that a 43-year-old man, originally from Guyana, was recently arrested and charged in connection with the theft and unauthorised use of an ATM card.

According to reports, the card’s owner had used an ATM at a bank in Road Town but forgot to retrieve it after completing her transaction. Realising the mistake shortly after leaving the location, she returned to the machine but found the card missing.

Later that day, the woman was reportedly contacted by an employee of a business who claimed to have confiscated the card from a man attempting to purchase approximately $600 worth of goods. The employee reportedly became suspicious when the man presented the card but appeared unaware of the PIN number.

The cashier allegedly observed that the card bore a woman’s name and asked the man to state it. When he failed to do so, the employee refused to return the card. The suspect then reportedly fled the store. The employee later used social media to track down the rightful owner and informed her about the recovered card.

Police were contacted and, after reviewing CCTV footage, were able to identify and arrest the suspect shortly after. Sources say the man managed to use the card at other establishments prior to being apprehended, although the total amount spent remains unconfirmed.

At this time, it is unclear whether the suspect has been granted bail or when he is scheduled to appear in court.
