A win for women! Demming-Hodge finally lands top Immigration post
BVI News understands that Nadia Demming-Hodge has been confirmed as Chief Immigration Officer after serving in the acting position for more than three years.
Credible sources have confirmed that Demming-Hodge was confirmed to the post on Friday, August 7, ending a lengthy period of uncertainty surrounding one of the territory’s key public service positions. She had been acting as Chief Immigration Officer since Ian Penn retired in December 2023. Before assuming that responsibility, she served as Deputy Chief Immigration Officer from 2021.
Her confirmation into the post comes amid growing calls from disgruntled residents, who have been pushing for the government to appoint qualified local women who have been acting or serving in senior positions across the public service.
The issue was raised publicly in March when Premier and Minister for Immigration Dr Natalio Wheatley was questioned by the media about women such as Demming-Hodge and Tracy Bradshaw, who serves in the BVI London Office, and why qualified women were not being confirmed or elevated to top positions.
At the time, Dr Wheatley praised Demming-Hodge and described her as a “young, upcoming star” in the public service. Her confirmation comes approximately five months after those comments.
During her acting tenure at the helm of the Immigration Department, Demming-Hodge oversaw several initiatives aimed at modernising immigration services. Among them was the introduction of the territory’s Online Embarkation/Disembarkation Card system, which became operational in January 2025 and moved the arrival and departure process further into the digital era.
Under her leadership, the Immigration Department has also been transitioning more of its services online. In January 2026, conditional permit applications were moved to an online system as part of the wider digitalisation push.
Demming-Hodge’s appointment means the Immigration Department now has a permanent Chief Immigration Officer after operating under acting leadership for more than three years.

I am all for the best person to get the job. Don’t care whether you’re male or female.
Too many people in this country love the shiny wrapping paper and buy the propaganda way too easy. Take a deeper dive into the substance of people in power here before you buy the crafted story and you’ll see an entirely different set of persons!
One wonders how’s the re-branded ‘club’ is doing in Long Bush? I bet they got those girls hustling their booties like they’re in a festival parade. Guess this is just another pro-woman business in all your eyes? 😉
The real victory isn’t that a woman got the job. The real victory is that the right person got the job. Too often, we get caught up in the narrative instead of examining the substance.
Gender may make for a good headline, but competence, experience, leadership, and results are what truly matter. If someone has earned a position through performance and a proven track record, we should celebrate that.
Judge people by the work they’ve done, not the box they tick. Merit should never take a back seat to narrative.

I hope this is the right person for the job. Corruption in the departments must be getting worse. Two and a half months ago, I submitted a request under their management, and they just keep telling me it’s still being processed. They’re playing with citizens’ patience to encourage corruption. I don’t agree with this; it’s frustrating.
