AG’s residence to undergo $300K rehabilitation works

The Attorney General’s residence is slated to undergo major rehabilitation works after a local construction company was awarded more than $300,000 to have the works completed by July 2021.

K&C Construction was the recipient of a contract totalling $331,862.53.

The Attorney General’s quarters had previously sustained significant damage due to hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. It mostly affected the roofing of the building. However, constant exposure to the natural elements caused further damage to the facility.

The scope of works expected to be completed will include “a full replacement of the roof and structural elements, windows, doors, drywall, new kitchen cabinetry, closets, electrical, plumbing, air condition and exterior works”.

Premier Andrew Fahie said he was pleased to allocate the necessary funding in the 2021 budget to have the AG’s residence finally completed.

He said: “It is important to make sure that the people of this territory must have a stake in the development of its economy. I firmly believe that on our journey towards self-determination, we have to believe in our people, we have to continue to build our people, we have to continue to understand that our future is in our hands but we also must understand that the future belongs to the prepared.”

$40k contract signed to install Solar Facility

In the meantime, another contract was signed for the installation of a Solar Facility for the Leonora Delville Primary School valued at $40,748.00.

Amandla Engineering was the recipient of that contract, which was signed to so renewable energy can be used to power the school.

This is expected to lower the institution’s energy bill and ensure a resilient community facility that will supply power in times of crisis.

    Hello

In the BVI pretty much all projects are done poorly (roads), not timely (Iris O’Neal clinic), not within budget (Pier Park).

Maybe we should stop celebrating handing out contracts. People celebrate the contracts with the ceremony but then are no longer held accountable to actually do the job properly, on time and within budget.

We should only celebrate when someone did his/her job right. Not at the start when everything can still (and will) go wrong.

It took a very long time to repair that residence. Wonder why it was not done during the tenure of the former AG…
