Tucked on the edge of the Keel Point, the quaint Anegada Beach Club (ABC) is beginning to garner rave reviews since undergoing a $3 million renovation following the onslaught of last year’s hurricanes.

Its latest major accolade was taking home the Boutique Eco-Hotel of the Year award by the touristic publication – Caribbean Journal, during its inaugural Caribbean Boutique Hotel Awards.

There were a total of 11 categories and to qualify, the hotels had to fewer than 50 rooms.

Editor and publisher of the Caribbean Journal Alexander Britell said: “It’s high time that these small jewels of the Caribbean travel industry be honoured for their remarkable contributions to the region.”

She was cited saying that, in more ways than one, these ‘boutique hotels’ makes the region the ‘unbeatable global destination that it is today’.

Great year

Manager at the ABC Jamie Johnson told BVI News that 2018 has been a good year for the company.

“That was really surprising. I had no idea. It was great” she said. “The staff is what makes this place, and our guests do our advertising for us. This year it’s really proving to be the place that we intended … it has been really fantastic,” she added.

“It is a beautiful place and the place to get away from everything and enjoy nature.”

Member of the Operations Team Trefor Grant also chimed in on their accolade, saying: “We are honoured to win this great award. We love what we do and being eco-friendly was a key part of our plan.”

Johnson said the hotel boasts of 26 accommodations including luxury beachfront palapas.

They have also had seven wedding ceremonies on the property since they reopened on February 1.

“People that didn’t know about Anegada before but still wanted to come to the BVI, they said ‘let’s give it a try’ because not much else was open. And it gave us the chance to showcase what Anegada has,” Johnson further said.

The hotel opened five years ago and offers kite surfing, snorkelling, kayaking etcetera, and some of the best food and drinks in the British Virgin Islands.
