The sister island of Anegada is being reported as reaping big rewards since the local tourism industry’s promising comeback from hurricane devastation.

“Anegada has rebounded so well. In fact, they have a thriving tourism industry over there,” Junior Tourism Minister Dr Hubert O’Neal said in the House of Assembly on Friday.

Dr O’Neal, who is also the Representative of the Ninth Electoral District within which Anegada is located, said the island is doing particularly well in the charter sector.

“I was so pleased to see that the many charter yacht companies and the yacht operators are patronising Anegada much more now since the facilities are very much open in Anegada.”

Record attendance at Lobster Fest

One of the successes the island has experienced in recent times is this year’s staging of the Anegada Lobster Fest, which is reported to have drawn a record attendance.

Statistics from Premier Dr D Orlando Smith said the two-day event attracted approximately 3,500 attendees.

The event saw visitors from Europe, the United States and Canada. Premier Smith said the event also saw “strong representation” from the neighbouring US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Accommodation spaces are also increasing on Anegada with Cow Wreck Beach entering the market with brand new cottages.

The island is also increasingly being accepted as a cruise destination, according to Premier Smith.

Anegada boasts tourist hotspots such as the Anegada Beach Club, Neptune’s Treasure, Wonky Dog, Lobster Trap, Anegada Reef Hotel, Flash of Beauty, Big Bamboo, and Potter’s By the Sea, which are all opened for business.

Funny with election coming up Hubert O’Neal suddenly remembers Anegada. He has done absolutely nothing for Anegada. Not one single thing. He soon be gone.

Anegada is thriving because the longtime visitors are being pushed there in a last ditch effort to hold on to the old quality experience once found in the other BVI Islands. Those islands have been pimped out like cheap whores all in the name of making a buck. When Anegada falls victim, that will be the end of the quality experience AND the quality tourists. BVI becoming an alcohol and drug fueled sh-thouse.

It’s also funny how Hubert O’Neal has forgotten how bad he talk about us Anegadians when we didn’t want to leave Anegada before Irma. He call us all kinds of bad names on the radio. And now he wants to take credit for our resilience. We remember and will remind him at election. #TouchMeNot #ILoveAnegada
