Another local makes CARIFTA Games team

Akrisa Eristree

Another local athlete has qualified for this year’s CARIFTA Games that will take place in the Cayman Islands next month.

Quarter-miler Akrisa Eristree qualified when she ran 56.71 seconds in the Under-17 female 400-metre race at the BVIAA Dag Samuels Development Meet Series last weekend.

The qualifying mark for that track event was 57.10.

Eristee now joins sprinter Jaleel Croal, strongmen Diamante and Djimon Gumbs, discus thrower Palesha Ceasar, and long jumper Arianna Hayde, all of whom have also qualified for the games.

The BVI Athletics Association set national qualifying standards so local athletes who compete in international events can do well. The CARIFTA Games does not set qualifying standards for countries to participate.
